I was part of an hour long Q&A with Rosewater in Atlanta and he says they are aware of the problem and are working on solutions. He also stated they have no intentions of ever going back to print to demand.

The way the system works (I think) is everyone who has something in their cart before the sale starts (old SL) is given a random place in line as the sale goes live. Everyone else who joins after the sale has started is put in the back of the line
