I want the United States government to ensure that every American has food to eat, a place to live, a safe neighborhood, transportation to move around & work, clean water to drink, free health care & free education.

Don’t care what label you give that.

That’s what I want my taxes to pay for.

But Stancil's point is that a lot of voters who support Republicans tend to vote based on identities (or reputations, to be more accurate) they want to cultivate for themselves rather than any ideology they believe in. That comes *after* they figure out* that, oh yeah this isn't just a PR battle.
