Overall, my advice to anyone in that position - leave. The second you know there is an out and you have help, for the love of the Gods leave.

She used every form of manipulation imaginable - and even learned how my Mother abused me, then put her own twist on it.

For 14 years, I was kept in isolation and a hell of her making. It was honestly one of the most darker times in my life -

When this is said to a woman, it's usually said by an abusive boyfriend trying to destroy her self-esteem in order to manipulate her into seeking his approval, or by a bully who's putting her down because it feels good to cause pain to others.
Meanwhile, the manosphere directly say this to men. They regularly tell short or even average height men that they're going to die alone because no woman will ever want to be with a man who's under 6 feet tall. They're literally telling short men exactly what a bully would tell those men. They're the ones trying to make every rejection those men experience systemic. They claim to care about helping men and putting an end to the "male loneliness epidemic" while they're the ones actively destroying men's self esteem.
And it makes perfect sense why they would do that. Similar to the abusive boyfriend who tells a woman that she'll die alone and that no one will ever want her in order to make her feel like he's her only possible source of affection, that's exactly what the manosphere want from men. They want to destroy men's self-esteem so men will see the manosphere as their only possible source of affection, causing those men to trust the manosphere and ignore anyone who challenges them. )

i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.

as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”

small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.

i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it. )
