New reporting: many apparently fired at CDC in 'error'. This is a failure by design given that the admin does not care about fulfilling agency missions. This is the kind of error that should have political consequences.

Unserious people cause real-world harm.

They have fired the staff of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, who are disease detectives that respond to outbreaks around the world.

I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous it is to dismantle our disease surveillance infrastructure.

Why is it that the Internet itself depends on trespassing through Indigenous territories yet it's framed as something that we're given access to through some sort of charity?

@lizneeley.bsky.social's newsletter tonight: emails went out late on Friday notifying CDC workers that they had been laid off. "If the reporting is correct, the layoffs include nearly the entire staff of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report."

This is the exact situation we all (including her when she was working) pay into social security for. And then the government withholds that money from people who deserve it, people who have literally FUNDED THE PROGRAM, when they need it. The govt just issues denials waiting for ppl to heal or die.

Yes, Marmota sibirica (the tarbagan) is a regular host of the plague. And apparently has been for 100s of years. This is why countries that have endemic plague reservoirs (like the U.S.) have surveillance systems. (Otherwise known as "Public Health".)
