All the hairsplitting about who is or isn’t a mutant that started in the 2000s invented a fictional form of intersectionality and immediately the X-Men failed at it.

The angry mob doesn’t know or care about the differences mutants, mutates, inhumans or whatever. They’re all freaks to them.

Also, a pretty obvious storyline that hasn't been deeply explored: as the mutant population increases, normal humans should not only turn to state power, technology, etc. but to magic, as it is possible in the Marvel narrative for anyone with access to the right training to do magic.

The Mage traditions all being types of guy who reject modernity in favour of some old tradition or secret truth are all a couple steps at best removed from fascism.

I’m pretty sure White Wolf has been dragging its heels for a Mage 5th edition for that reason.

“If HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS had filmed a season in the 2010s, there definitely would have been an episode where Hercules and Iolaus travel to the city of Ur—which looks like a New Zealand suburb—and discover there that Salmoneus has been placed under arrest by the King for fraudulently selling lousy copper. Hercules investigates and it turns out Salmoneus is just a wholesaler and the crappy product is the fault of his supplier, an absolute dirtbag merchant played by guest star Keenan Ivory Wayans.

Hercules beats up the merchant's goons to discover evidence of his shady business practices and the evidence saves Salmoneus from getting his hands chopped off but the king respects the merchant too much to punish him for his fraud. Salmoneus fecklessly screams out as he departs on horseback with his companions that he's going to write a formal complaint about his poor customer service, and the merchant just clutches his gut laughing and finally shouts back "And who shall ever care, that humble Ea-Nasir had a displeased customer?" Fade to credits as Salmoneus seethes”
