I found this a really illuminating thread on what demonstrations do and why they matter.
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Clearing out a bunch of old screenshots and found this corker, from three of the universe's most brilliant political minds. How are we all enjoying life in Liz Truss's Golden Age, then?

🟢🟡For things to get this bad, there are more problems than Manning-ball alone.

🗣️ Gary Gowers

▪️Mind-numbing football
▪️Problems on the pitch matched by those off it
▪️Knapper and Webber too skating in thin ice

The inconsistency of appointments is definitely part of the problem.
That I *do* agree with!

I saw a tragically AI-generated version of this poster, so I have recreated a 100% human-made version for all your protest sign needs.
Barry Bannan will score the winner.

That is inevitable. He always does.

That was another example of a 180 handbrake turn in managerial appointments wasn’t it?

The man-manager high octane Lambert to the dour ‘pragmatic’ Hughton

It’s not a new pattern! 😆
Agreed. I can see that it was potentially a gamble worth taking but I’m saying Knapper didn’t exactly help him get off to a good start.

And when it came to the crunch there’s an argument that Knapper should have backed him and weeded out the players who were causing trouble to make a point

#ncfc
God, I’d forgotten that as well!
100%.

He speaks as if he has no agency in it at all.

We had a few better players but Wagner was an awful manager. People seem to forget how bad it was.
Matty! I’d almost forgotten about him 😂
If I was Attanasio I’d be looking for an experienced CEO and then I’d task that CEO finding an experienced Sporting Director.

Trouble is I’d also be looking for another manager so that would have to be a very swift process

#ncfc
It feels very much like the Roeder season…
The whole point of a Sporting Director is supposed to be continuity but since Farke we’ve zigzagged from Smith to Wagner to JHT to Manning. All different styles of play so every transfer window means you’ve got half a squad that was bought for a different manager. It’s bonkers 🤷‍♂️ #ncfc
Knapper’s decision to employ an unknown Danish manager and bring in people he didn’t know to work with him was the issue, not the sacking. #ncfc
I do despair at people who phone up Canary Call and say “We shouldn’t have have sacked David Wagner, he got us to the play-offs”

The football was just as DIRE as it is now. We got THRASHED by Leeds in the play-offs and he was rightly sacked. #ncfc
That would be the script…
Lose on Tuesday and we could be in the bottom three…

I feel for the Pink'un, TNC, ACN etc folks trying to not make their podcasts this week exactly the same as the last 4 or 5. What else do you even say at this point? #ncfc
