Everyone's posting cool #portfolioday stuff so it'd be foolish not to get onboard.

I've been sculpting miniatures for the tabletop for a few years now, largely on my own. Here are some that I'm proud of!

I'm finishing something up this week, but then I'll be open for commissions and collabs again!
Dieselpunk airship, bristling with guns and appointed with a dramatic skull figurehead A collection of ramshackle tanks, clearly made of scrap and piloted by goblins A squad of Spectres from the critically acclaimed game Titanfall, in 28mm miniature form A collection of wall segments with various material finishes -- brick, metalwork, vents, pipes -- for tabletop terrain

Internally everyone is getting told that customers will go elsewhere if we don't have an AI strategy and for some reason nobody's AI strategy is that this shit sucks and we should ignore it

Does your system of spirit, freedom, and kindness exist in real life or is it just an idea you had about how people should be nice to each other?

If you're getting hit in the face, you want the force to diffuse as much as possible, not direct it like a melon-baller directly into your own eye socket. Your skull is actually pretty good at this by default.

Once explained, this seems obvious! Don't double down on this.

That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write.

building a better first person shooter part 3: enemy mine
So! First, we talked about a specific subgenre of first person shooter, loosely starting with Unreal and Half-Life and dying off around…

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

Pretty cool that it turns out the deep state pedophile conspiracy was actually nothing to worry about

Israelis have a commendable history of publicizing the crimes and the systems of mass repression in which they were asked to participate. Every few years, we learn a new horrifying thing via open letter refusal to carry it out. You experienced a lifetime of that. What changed on October 10th, 2023?

Like, you weren't in favor of a ceasefire in 2003 when Israeli pilots went public with the fact that they were routinely ordered to drop bombs at random on Palestinian civilians? You were in favor of doing that for another 20 whole years? What is wrong with you?

What changed on October 10th, out of interest?

I ask simply because as long as I have been alive I've been reading news stories of the rampant horrors visited by the IDF and settlers upon journalists, children, families, farmers, negotiators, moderate politicians, protesters, and a host of others.

When was the last time America wasn't a police state and source of an alarming death toll? You guys have a social movement to reform one or both of these roughly every decade, and so far they've all been crushed or subverted by the regime.

This is pretty much also true of trans rights, on which her full platform was she'd 'follow the law'. Are we to assume she was too dumb to see what laws were gaining traction? You can maybe understand how a lot of people were not enthusiastic about a candidate who loved to capitulate this much.

People kept asking her to stake out a position separate from Biden, who materially supported the genocide. She was given every opportunity to shape her messaging on her terms but instead refused and evaded. Which placed her, by default, supporting the genocide.
