I preferred it to English Language A Level, in many ways. It was more practical and useful. I think you need to have lived a bit of a life to really appreciate the likes of Charles Dickens. I didn't get it as a sheltered 18 year old but, after living in London for 20 years, it made a lot more sense.

I also like to list current comforts. Again, this reassures me that, no matter how adrift I feel, everything is okay. That, despite the feeling in my head/heart/soul, my day-to-day reality is no different than it's ever been and is actually better in some ways.

Not a solution but it helps me cope.

I can relate. I've been struggling with it since my parents died. I find it helps to think about my achievements. When I list them, they're greater than I tend to assume. This gives some comfort and reminds me I can do whatever I set my mind to, I just need to identify and lock on to the next thing.

No more of a joke than Labour's proposal. If you want to get the country off its arse, it'd make more sense to fund adult education and insist those who left school without a C/4 in Maths and English attend. Whilst they're there, they can also learn about critical thinking and media manipulation.

It exists. I got mine in 1991. It involved a study of language acquisition, the development of the language in England from Chaucer's time and an understanding of the various ways in which language is applied.

When I see announcements like this, I have to ask - how many of the people out there who are so vehemently anti-migrant would actually pass English at an A-Level standard?

It's even worse than that, OJ. Bona fide PPE companies came forward to offer their services and were ignored by government, who favoured VIP Lane companies, despite many being brand new and having no experience in PPE. The delays this created caused shortages of PPE which cost lives.

I used to teach that to kids in China (from my kitchen in Wigan).

I'm getting flashbacks now! It was good and I enjoyed it - although the pay sucked. Then the Chinese government made it illegal and I was forced to stop.

It still begs the question as to why Labour lied about "making Brexit work" for so long. If they are going to have any credibility, they need to accept accountability for their role in the Brexit damage, so that they can draw a line under it and move on towards rejoining the SM and CU.
