My social media is filled with artists announcing that they are suspending shipments to the US when the de minimis tariff exemptions are removed August 29.

This is devastating for a lot of small businesses. Canadian artists should find artworks still exempt from tariffs (in accordance with CUSMA)

I think she’ll have lots of turkey to deal with but I’m planning on just bringing them a pie.

Thanks - it’s the minimum required ratio around here, to be honest.

Thank you. It’s the minimum ratio around here. 😆

I get the Mandarin ducks (like Becky’s drawing) and wood ducks confused too and always have to double check.
minouette.bsky.social
Thank you. I’m glad you’re doing much better that you were then.

Yes. Here it’s scheduled to go with harvest time.

The proximity of American Thanksgiving to Christmas always struck me as weird.

They’ll have to eat more ham! 😆
minouette.bsky.social
Imagining me later asking, “Would you like some ham on your pumpkin pie? Cause there’s more ham?”

There is definitely enough ham that my SIL and nephews could have joined us. And I don’t even think 3 hungry boys could polish this off with 3 pies.
minouette.bsky.social
I’m making a spiral cut ham, cause last minute turkey isn’t easy and I have managed to get through my life this far without having to cook a turkey. Plus my husband bought far more ham than our family of 3 could possibly eat.

I have made 3 pumpkin pies for 5 people.

I decided to host an impromptu Thanksgiving so my parents get some sense of normality and don’t spend their long weekend simply worrying about my brother.

He was going to host us yesterday to allow for my SIL’s family plans. So she and my nephews are at her family’s.

A mandatory duck in pastels I did a few weeks ago. I'm really pleased with my progress in pastels. Practice practice practice.

of 1764. Under her own name, she published a map of eclipse’s extent over Europe as well as its successive phases in 15-minutes intervals as would be visible over Paris.

She & husband adopted his nephew, Joseph Lepaute Dagelet in 1768 whom she trained as a mathematician & astronomer.

insisted they could never have made the calculations without her.

Lepaute collaborated with Lalande for decades, working on almanacs, ephemerides, comets & she calculated on her own daily positions of Sun, Moon & planets. In 1762 she calculated the exact time & path of the annular solar eclipse

In 1757, Lalande decided he improve the predictions of the return of Halley’s Comet. He enlisted Clairaut (who had a new approximate solution to the 3-body problem) & Lepaute. Their prediction was off by mere days, a huge technical feat & 10-fold improvement on Halley’s 2-year window. Lalande

No aristocrat, though born in Luxembourg Palace; she was the 6th of 9 children of the valet of the duchesse de Barry & her sister. A bright child, she was self-taught & devoured all books in the library.

She married royal clockmaker Jean-André Lepaute, in 1764, which allowed her to pursue her

solving the notorious 3-body by hand (including the gravitational pull of Jupiter & Saturn on orbit). They worked in parallel, calculating for 6 months straight, barely stopping to eat! She produced astronomical almanacs from 1759 to 1783 & was also a member of the Scientific Académie de Béziers.

For day 12 of #spacetober_challenge prompt eclipse: #mathematician & #astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788) and her calculated path of the solar eclipse of 1764. 🧪🐡👩🏼‍🔬🧮🔭 #histsci She also worked with Alexis Clairaut & Jérôme Lalande to precisely calculate the date of return of Halley’s Comet, 🧵
My linocut print of mathematician & astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788) in a vertical gradient (bottom to top) of bright pink to lavender on white paper. She wears a wig and gown and the portrait is from the chest to head. Her 12 diagrams of the phases of the annular the solar eclipse of 1764 as viewed from Paris appear across her shoulders. Behind her head in green is her map of the path of the eclipse across Europe.

So much better than yesterday, thank you. The doctors are very pleased with his progress and they are managing his pain.

He did really well though and I am proud he was willing to go in. My nephews, understandably, are not up for it.
