I submitted a FOIA request for every submission for the Illinois state flag competition. Today, I got the files. You have no idea what they're keeping from us.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

pretty insane this is on an official government website
a banner on the usda website that reads: "Due to the Radical Left Democrat shutdown, this government website will not be updated during the funding lapse. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people."

One thing I've wondered: is Trump consciously lying when he says antifa is receiving mystery funding? Or does he truly believe that antifa (famously a singular, coherent organization) is receiving large sums of money?
atrupar.com
Trump: "Antifa is out of control in Portland and other places ... we're looking for the people that are funding them and those people are gonna be just as guilty as the people that smack people over the head with a baseball bat."

it's sad that "open exchange of ideas" has become code for "there's one correct line of thought"

“'The fact that we don't have money to pay journalists, but we have money to pay Bari Weiss between $100 and 200 million is indicative of what the Ellisons' true goal here is,' a network correspondent said. 'And it's not journalism.'"
CBS News staffers are ‘literally freaking out’ about Bari Weiss taking over newsroom
EXCLUSIVE: ‘People are using words like depressing and doomsday – feels like some sort of doomsday,’ one source told The Independent about the mood inside CBS News right now.

I live in northern Michigan now - reach out with any tips for agriculture, higher education, or government accountability stories you feel should be covered.

I'll still be writing about other areas, but I'm aiming to transition to more Michigan-centric stories in the coming months.

If anyone needs an old watchdog report and is having trouble accessing it with so many IG websites down, the Payment Integrity Alliance has archived all reports from Oversight. gov from 2010 up through Sept. 26 here: programintegrity.org/search/

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

Good for Prime/Kaylee Hartung for both mentioning the investigation into Hill and actually saying what it’s about

I went to Roanoke College to visit with their new DIII football team. Like many small schools, they're looking for ways to increase/maintain enrollment.

Will the football team aid in their long term enrollment efforts? The data shows lukewarm results.
Colleges add sports to bring men, but it doesn’t always work
Some colleges, especially at Division III level, hope that starting a football team will attract more young men to enroll.

He lives in a low-crime neighborhood, yet has a concealed-carry permit and carries a handgun with him everywhere he goes. This is a working-class man who used to be a democrat, but turned to vote for Trump in 2016. The MAGA propaganda has worked.

LUJAN: You hired a man named David Geier to conduct this study. Is that correct?

RFK Jr: No

LUJAN: Is Geier working for HHS?

RFK Jr: He's a contractor

LUJAN: Do you know that Mr Geier is listed on the HHS employee directory as a senior data analyst, not a contractor?

RIP Jean Baudrillard you would have had a field day writing about people who think AI enhanced images are real

Today’s press pool photo shows Trump leaving the White House this morning.

I enhanced the image. And seriously, can an expert explain what the hell is happening to his forehead? Right above his nose and right brow.
