“The length of a movie all depends on what you want to say. I don’t care what is acceptable.”

(Béla Tarr)

I met Béla Tarr twice. Once in 2000 in his birthplace Pécs where I studied film, and once in 2011 in Budapest, during a Q&A following a screening of his THE TURIN HORSE as part of that year’s SCSMI conference (the quote is from this second encounter, appearing in András Bálint Kovács’s book on Tarr)

"Turn on the light, son." -- RIP Béla Tarr
