In 2009 Tomás Rivera Schatz, as president of the Senate, said of opposition senator Sila Mari González that she "remind[ed] him of Mary Magdalene," the companion of Jesus that church tradition says was a prostitute.

But Rivera Schatz supports Puerto Rico statehood so he must be a good guy

October 10, 2019: Then- (and now-) Puerto Rico Senate President, Tomás Rivera Schatz, posts some typical invective against journalist Jay Fonseca, which ends with the following "idiom":

"For a pig's squeals, a butcher's ears! You're gonna get your Christmas Eve, piggy!"

September 16, 2021 posting by Puerto Rican statehood leader Tomás Rivera Schatz where he posts an Alianza legislators' confidential property tax records to instigate an investigation against her, which dragged on until the appeals court confirmed the lower court rejection of all charges.

This is Thomas Rivera Schatz's mugshot from 2002 from when several of the top leaders of Puerto Rico's pro-statehood political party, the Partido Nuevo Progresista, assaulted Puerto Rico's Women's Affairs Office because they felt it did not have enough USA flags.

Thomas Rivera Schatz has repeatedly over the years launched racist insults against black Puerto Rican journalist Benjamín Torres Gotay, whom he nicknames "El Cimarrón" ("The Maroon"). Again, Rivera Schatz is one of the top advocates for statehood in Puerto Rico.

May 25, 2023: In a radio interview with Alex Delgado, Thomas Rivera Schatz threatens former legislator and Alianza candidate Manuel Natal: "He doesn't have the build to take a punch and he's asking for it. If he had the build it'd be worth to punch him." (Source: @Fe_Humolandia on Twitter)

Here's a video of Thomas Rivera Schatz at an October 26, 2024 campaign caravan, throwing water from a moving truck at a woman who held a sign in favor of Juan Dalmau's campaign for governor. Schatz is one of the very top pro-statehood figures in Puerto Rico.

If you don't translate what this guy actually says but instead you told a Democrat that he's the leader of Puerto Rico's statehood supporters in the Senate, just with that description they'd immediately think he's a good guy like they fashion themselves and wish he'd be US senator

President of Puerto Rico's senate, Thomas Rivera Schatz, speaks for his bill that guts Puerto Rico's freedom of information law: "We are not intimidated by the lefties, communists, socialists, the diminute, Madurists, nobody intimidates us. If y'all gonna do something, come at us."

The most outrageous bit, from CPIPR's story (linked next skeet): "[A]gencies would no longer be required to provide hard copies of requested documents. Instead, they could merely allow you to view the records at their offices, just for a single day, and still be considered in compliance."
Screenshot of paragraph from story from CPIPR, linked in the thread and at the bottom of this Alt text. It reads:

"The bill is problematic for many reasons. To summarize a few: it doubles the time for agencies to deliver requested materials and adds layers of bureaucracy; it makes it easier to classify information as confidential without due process; it requires agencies to notify their heads every time an information request is filed; it eliminates the possibility of requesting data in open formats such as Excel or CSV; it creates new barriers for citizens without digital access; and it imposes only symbolic, ineffective penalties that do nothing to ensure real transparency."

"As if that weren’t enough, under the proposed law, agencies would no longer be required to provide hard copies of requested documents. Instead, they could merely allow you to view the records at their offices, just for a single day, and still be considered in compliance. In the case of environmental matters, for instance, planning and permitting documents often run hundreds of pages and include plans and maps. If you can only view them for one day, without copies, in a disorganized fashion, you lose the right to review and analyze them carefully and effectively."

Ok then, how about you wear a mask only when you’re breathing
midnucas.bsky.social
That wouldn’t have been as bad as handing it to María Corina Machado

Oh yes why don’t you lecture us with your rational assessment of the threat environment in light of droplets and T-cells, Mr. op-ed columnist at the New York Times
midnucas.bsky.social
Not five years ago we saw world leaders, wielding that exact “vax and relax” nonargument, kill millions of people and disable untold tens or hundreds of millions. You just don’t want to wear masks no matter where and when, and you don’t care who gets hurt.

There’s a video of a freed Palestinian hostage who’d made a gift for his daughter’s birthday this week only to learn that Israel killed his whole family weeks ago. Also a video of another whose torturers had told him that his family had all been killed, and found them alive
