Making free meals available to all public students wouldn't only produce benefits equal to the costs, it would produce social benefits with a net worth of about $520 million a year, according to an economic analysis released last Monday ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/10/14/a...
Analysis: Universal school meals in Ohio would pay for themselves — and then some • Ohio Capital Journal

Proud to stand alongside activists from Healthcare for All Ohioans in fighting for a system that puts people ahead of profits.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The Ohio Health Care Plan would simplify our system, cut wasteful administrative costs, and ensure that every Ohioan can get the care they need.

Every year, 20,000 Ohioans file for bankruptcy because of medical debt. Even those with insurance are struggling. One in four Ohioans with employer coverage still can’t afford their medical bills.

Today I gave sponsor testimony before the House Insurance Committee on House Bill 289 — the Ohio Health Care Plan Act, my bill with Rep. Tristan Rader to establish universal, single-payer health care for all Ohioans.

A senior couple earning $82,800 a year could face a 236% increase in their premiums. A family of four earning $64,000 a year could face a 226% increase in their premiums. People will lose their health insurance, or It will become unaffordable. This is a life and death issue in Ohio.

I spoke with 13abc’s Josh Croup about the Ohio Medical Debt Fairness Act, my bipartisan bill to cap medical debt interest rates, end wage garnishment for medical bills, and prohibit the reporting of medical debt to credit agencies.
michelegrim.bsky.social
Aggressive medical debt collection practices are wrecking Ohioans’ finances and leaving families who are already struggling even further behind. We need fairer rules to give people a fighting chance.
Proposed Ohio bill would ban wage garnishment for medical debt
The bill would prevent hospitals from taking money out of former patients' paychecks and cap interest rates on medical debt at 3%, down from the current 8%.

ICYMI: One small-town Ohio hospital sued 2,700 patients in two years - garnishing wages and charging steep interest on families already struggling. This powerful reporting shows how medical debt is devastating Ohioans and why our bipartisan Ohio Medical Debt Fairness Act is urgently needed.
This small-town Ohio hospital sued 2,700 patients in two years for unpaid medical bills • Ohio Capital Journal

Aurora Project has served our community for nearly four decades but is facing challenges due to federal, state, and local funding cuts to transitional housing. We need leaders at all levels of government who will stand up and fight for more resources to meet our crucial housing needs.

Great discussion today with the team at Aurora Project, who offer a comprehensive housing and life skills program that empowers homeless women and their children to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

Loved visiting our Sanger Branch Library on Friday! Every corner of our Toledo Lucas County Public Library system is full of people learning, connecting, and building community. Our libraries do incredible work and I’ll always be a partner fighting for them in Columbus.

WGTE enriches, empowers, and educates people across northwest Ohio. With extremists in Washington killing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, it’s more important than ever for citizens to stand up for public media and support our local PBS and NPR affiliates as members and advocates.

No one should see their family’s finances wrecked, their credit damaged, or their wages garnished just because they got sick or injured. Let’s pass the bipartisan Ohio Medical Debt Fairness Act and stop medical debt from ruining lives.

Today, the House Health Committee met and members from both parties continued working together to advance the Ohio Medical Debt Fairness Act (H.B. 257). No one should be punished simply for needing medical care. Let’s get this done.

Families across Ohio are being crushed by medical debt - not because they made bad choices, but because they had bad luck. That’s why overwhelming majorities of Ohioans support commonsense reforms to make the system fairer.

Oregon is the latest state to keep medical debt off of credit reports. Will Ohio be next? I’ve introduced the bipartisan Ohio Medical Debt Fairness Act to end reporting of medical debt to credit agencies, cap interest rates, and ban wage garnishment for medical debt. Let’s get this done.
