If you have innovative products/designs/protoypes for sustainable construction, sufficiency, resilience, regeneration, production to showcase, pls get in touch. We have pushed construction professionals worldwide with our exhibition and workshops in the straw house, and we plan to continue doing so.

The mail does not arrive by horse at a modern straw house, but via last mile micro electric mobility.

Yes, it needs scaling up of production. But then it's not the same league of material (performance).

“When crops are burned for fuel, new land can be needed to grow new crops for food or fuel. This can lead to indirect land clearance and deforestation. Staggeringly, biofuels globally therefore today emit 16% more CO₂ emissions than the fossil fuels they replace.”

I offered a dissenting voice in this article about "beauty" in #architecture, though little of it got in. Essentially, I can't see why style wars should wang on self-promotingly through a climate emergency.

I put the case here too:

Who should decide what makes a building beautiful?
Everyone agrees that we need more homes, and fast — and that we want them to look good. But who should be the judge: architects, governments or the general public?

2% of the retrofits do not need remediation.
No details on the actual issues but much of this sounds like unqualified installers and a lack of QA from the government made for a toxic mix.
Add the complexity of the building science for retrofits....

One thing I like about this is that one of the architectural firms was also responsible for the renovation of Belgium's national bank building where they worked with Rotor Déconstruction.

You might be able to buy your own piece of the European Parliament as a souvenir in a few years' time.

Typical reply from UK folks, "#strawbuilding is nice but you can't build that here, codes yada yada."
Meanwhile in the UK:
(And most other countries, you can delay it but can't stop this, because it's the way!)

It’s been a busy 2024!
We built, 26 low carbon affordable homes.
A school.
A robotics lab.
3 holiday homes.
A cancer care centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital!
We delivered them on steep slopes, up on stilts, in carparks, on rooftops!
We Store Carbon!
This is why we’re called Agile!

Comprehensive failure as cowboy builders and inadequate regulation meant 98% of solid wall insulation fitted badly, requiring repair

* Those affected need redress
* insulation, fitted well, still good way to reduce energy costs
* but regulate **properly**

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Tens of thousands of homes insulated under government schemes need repairs
Insulation programmes costing billions of pounds have led to widespread problems with damp and mould.

By 2030, biofuels are projected to emit 70 MtCO2e more than the fossil fuels they replace.

That’s the same as the emissions from almost 30 million diesel cars.

The US federal attack on Portland has resulted in the best advertisement for a city that I have ever seen. Round-the-clock joy, community solidarity and silliness that much of the West has lost and longs for.

Gypsum production in Germany is set to plummet (first because it won’t be available as a byproduct of coal burning, later because mining will be phased out), so they are investigating clay boards as an alternative...

not really, by human scales. atm clay is mostly used from digging here and there anyway.

The UK is seriously clay-rich btw.
michaelburchert.bsky.social
Not so fun fact, we tested clay boards on timber ceilings >10 years ago, they basically worked fine but the mounting was $%&$! and the test failed. Money was gone, because funding schemes are about something else every 5 minutes.
Then we had business as usual gypsum on everything for >10 years.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.
