Hello, new Bluesky faces and followers!

If you did not know me from elsewhere, I'm Mike! This feed will not be coherent, as I'll be jumping between topics: movies, television, video games, tokusatsu, anime/manga/webtoons, and comics. Apologies in advance.

The blog should be up... eventually.

A second film the bottom of the list:

Followers (2021)

An influencer moves into a haunted dorm room, bringing his roommates along for the ride.

Sadly, I felt every minute of this one. I pegged the twist because there was one character who otherwise had no reason to be involved. Not good.

I have! Did it back in 2019, the first year we did 31 Days. Enjoyed it!
mhwilliams.bsky.social
Well, that wasn't good...

But it was oddly entertaining. The Serbian side of the cast were giving it their all and the creature work was fun in B-grade Corman horror way.

So far, you can tell these folks love their creature work!

This film began with a real slow, sombre scene of soldiers in 1814 (?) about to... kill a horse? And then the horse *explodes* into a parasite puppet, rock music begins, and the badly-CGed parasite burrows into a dude's back or butt?

The tone shift was WILD.

One benefit of prepping for #31DaysofHorror is collecting errant films all year and then finding them again when they're randomly chosen.

Anyways, tonight's choice is: Hell Hole (2024)

People. Parasites? Serbia? Let's go I guess.

Feels a bit rude to the art to be honest.
A YouTube thumbnail with the title: How to Edge Your Art 🧐

Now this is clearly about the edges of various shapes in your art, however...

"Don't do anything personal on your government equipment" has been locked in since I worked for the government wayyyyyyy back in the day.

RIP to the greatest film poster artist.

Heartbroken that, per his social media accounts, Drew Struzan has left us. His poster and album art was quite simply shorthand for imagination for countless young people.
E.T. Adventure poster, 1990. I still have one of these hanging in my childhood bedroom. Star Wars Special edition triptych, 1997. I remember seeing all of these in the paper as each film was re-released and just felt a burst of energy those mornings. Hook poster, 1991 Back to the Future poster, 1985

Tonight's film is You'll Never Find Me (2023).

A reclusive man is confronted with a young woman taking shelter in his trailer from a storm.

For the first two-thirds, this is a tense banger. Unfortunately, the ending was entirely expected and not really worth it.

A miss in story execution.

And then pretty good ones.

The ones that were just plain mean for me in the past few years.

I call it "the TCW special".

A lot of writers seem to think the more mannered and self-conscious their prose, the better. They add SO much fluff. But the real power of any book comes from the precision of its observations, not the purpleness of its prose. David Foster Wallace wrote like an 8th grade boy taking an English test.

It was brave of you to post this on the timeline.

On the last one, I actually *did* say the Switch 2 was too expensive and yet:

Hardware - Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales are trending 77% ahead the time-aligned sales of the original Nintendo Switch.

A few things:

One, they gotta plan these consoles *way* in advance, so they probably didn't have *gestures at 2025* on the radar.

Two, holding back leads to a Switch 2, where the hardware is slightly out of date.

Three, I would've said the Switch 2 is too expensive, but y'all proved me wrong.
