At any given moment my moods are either 1) nervous looking pangolin or 2) “What are you waiting for, huh?” from I Know What You Did Last Summer.

When I was growing up, a house down the road from me had probably 25+ inflatable decorations every Christmas. It was fun to see at night but in the morning — well, we called it “The Christmas House Massacre.”

One last additional note on camp at protests: Stonewall had a chorus line facing off against riot police
At Waverly Place a Chorus Line Is Formed by the Protesters
Truscott: Formed in a line, the TPF swept the crowd back to the corner of Waverly Place, where they stopped. A stagnant situation there brought on some gay tomfoolery in the form of a chorus line facing the line of helmeted and club-carrying cops.
Laurence: "The kids formed a chorus line opposite the helmeted police line and
started singing and dancing. The TPF advanced again and scattered them."
Spencer®: the one queen's Salome dance in front of the advancing police line, capped by the crack as the Tactical Patrol Force prepared to step off with linked arms,
"Oh, look at the lovely Rockettes."
The Protestors Next Run up to Gay Street and Come Out Behind the Police
White: The cops form a flying wedge at the Greenwich Avenue end of Christopher and drive the kids down toward Sheridan Square. The panthers, however, run down Waverly, up Gay Street, and come out behind the cops, kicking in a chorus line, taunting, screaming

Should a scene turn violent there really isn’t a guaranteed “safe” protest outfit other than being kitted out like riot police so you might as well wear the eye-catching campy outfit and hope it helps diffuse things a bit.

I will say that an inflatable costume might not be the safest protest outfit should the scene take a violent turn but that it’s entirely up to the person wearing it to determine risk vs reward.

What I'd love people to take from the Portland Frog (and the other inflatable costumes) is both that wearing an inflatable costume to a protest can create cool viral visuals AND that you need to just try shit.

A core frustration of the moment has been people who want to organize in 2025 but aren't currently doing anything who want to criticize everything being done as played out or ineffective.

The core criticism has merit - a lot of things that worked in the past might not work now for various reasons.

You could literally just follow Katelyn if you wanted in on the fun, or quote tweet it with an actual response instead of a truly dumb complaint. Instead, you choose to shit your pants over someone having replies turned off to non-followers.

I’m so glad you’re able to admit it. It’s so rare on social media.

tempted to parachute into cities popping off? don’t.

it’s generally not in good taste to chase riot porn. it scans as opportunistic & callous, esp if you make no effort to build/be in community. plus any footage you post is guaranteed to get ripped so if you’re clout chasing you’re gunna get v mad.

Her entire schtick is disingenuous, her opinion pieces are either poorly thought out and not researched or presented as some “new, forbidden idea” when it’s just reactionary politics.

People are spontaneously posting up near any laborers or street vendors they spot. Just saw a rapid responder guarding a man working on a building exterior. Many things are terrible today but lord, this stuff matters.

There are a tremendous number of ICE watchers out in Rogers Park this afternoon after some early morning abductions.

People are guarding churches and patrolling alleyways. Ran into Alderperson Hadden. First timers tell us they're primed and ready to use their whistles.
