An image that springs to mind is the end of The Difference Engine, where the entire earth has been covered in one vast computer who’s only function is its own perpetuation, and human life has been reduced to performing its maintenance.

If you think that sounds definitionaly nonsensical I agree! I think we are all in danger! The people who rule us are completely alienated from labor on a fundamental level and aren’t going to stop trying to chase this insane fantasy.

I think the breakneck pace of AI data center deployment, well beyond what actual demand needs to be serviced, should be understood similarly to cryptocurrency: a drive in contemporary capitalism to try and find a way to shortcut the need for human activity between raw energy and economic value.

I would simply not use a national party body to intervene in a primary race and instead build infrastructure for the eventual nominee, trusting the choice of primary voters, but then again I lack the political acumen of people who have steered the party into its lowest ever modern approval rating.

What I find fascinating about these accounts is that they're clearly not just procedural text bots, there's definitely an LLM powering this, but it feels almost like GPT-2 tier? Its only been a few years and you can already tell it feels outdated.

It now appears the federal agents have left the intersection, after deploying more gas into the crowd. Still working to sort more details.

Feels almost trite at this point to bring up the federal court's restraining order, which included language meant to rein in agents' use of chemical weapons.

A confrontation between community members and militarized federal agents appears to be unfolding on Chicago's southeast side, near the intersection of E. 105th St and S. Ave. N.

Details still emerging. From what I've seen federal agents have deployed at least one can of some kind of gas.

There are some authors like Tchaikovsky who I think are doing really good work in continuity with the big novel movements of the 70s and 80s but it feels so hard to find stuff interested in pushing the boundaries of structure and style.
