Oh for sure. But the NBA likes to always downplay the profitability of the W any time CBA negotiations come up, and then anyone who does not follow (or believe in) women's sports latches on to those talking points as if they are gospel.
mcoley.bsky.social
It is great to hear someone who knows money explain why payers should be paid what they deserve.

Also, buy Slaying the Trolls. It's a great book.
mcoley.bsky.social
If you have any interest in the ongoing #WNBA collective bargaining negotiations, or if you've ever heard, someone tell you that players shouldn't make more money because "the WNBA loses money every year" take a little bit of time to listen to this interview.

Economics professor and author @wagesofwins.bsky.social discusses why losses or setbacks in men’s sports have almost always been met with more investment, while women’s sports haven’t historically been given the time and money to thrive.

The worst part about not being a Women's Soccer fan until now is missing out on the prime years of all these great players. So many players are retiring now that I have heard of and know had a huge impact, but I wasn't there to see them when they were at their best. 😢

Retirements call for flowers, but also reevaluation. Christen Press’ career defies neat storylines of success on and off the field, even as she retires as a two-time World Cup winner.

An attempt to capture the whole, at @theathletic.com www.nytimes.com/athletic/671...
Christen Press felt like a ‘villain’. The ex-USWNT forward played long enough to become a hero
The World Cup winner doesn't view her professional career as 'storybook,' but a journey full of lessons

If you value unbiased local journalism, then you need to support those outlets so they keep up their great work. I can't donate as much as I wish I could to support the @tennesseelookout.com, but I always feel better about the world when I can.

There are f’ing TV ADS for the SCORE Act?!?

Don’t buy their bullshit. Every single org invested in and working toward equity for and investment in women’s college sports are working to REJECT the SCORE Act.

Pass it on - NO to the SCORE Act.

Mispronouncing names, being WAY off on timing with what's being said vs what's being shown. I honestly think it would be better with no voiceover. It's that bad.

Not to mention the top 10 plays at the end were mixed with random NBA preseason plays & old TikTok videos. What are we doing?🤦
mcoley.bsky.social
I'm watching the @espn.com "SportsCenter For You" AI-voiced, personalized highlights, & good grief is this bad. The voiceover is just as emotionless as you would expect all while trying to have natural language & emotion. The first 4/15 minutes was all WNBA, but then it repeated Aces news again.
mcoley.bsky.social
That's what I had assumed! Sorry the game turned out how it did. They had a great season from what I understand (aka - what I heard from you)!
mcoley.bsky.social
Yeah, I'm not sure the app is working like they intend. I asked two questions, and it gave me the answer...
mcoley.bsky.social
So the WNBA did actually explain what happened, and it's just as weak and spineless as I originally thought.

Yeah, I'm back to my original stance. This was a horrible call and the ref should be disciplined. I'm someone who literally doesn't cuss, but even I know this is no reason to give someone an immediate double tech.

Here is the pool report from Game 4 of the 2025 WNBA Finals.

Per crew chief Roy Gulbeyan, Tibbetts was assessed two seperate technicals for yelling, "that's fuck--- terrible," twice.

I'm so happy for Jewell. As a Storm fan, I'm still sad the organization did get such a bad job with her at the end, but I'm so glad she landed in such a good spot this year. Will always be a fan of her, regardless of whatever team she may be on.

Jewell Loyd on what this moment is like for her after what she went through last season in Seattle:

" I was kind of written off in exile, but I ended up in promise land."

A'ja Wilson then shook her pink tambourine in support of the answer.

Totally missed this the first time through - went back and yep.

Had to blur out that one guy in back in particular.

Yeah, we need a welfare check on @sheknowssports.bsky.social considering the Tigers just went to extra innings.

ESPN literally had to blur the screen when Cathy was giving the championship trophy because a ton of fans were flipping Cathy off in addition to the boos.
nrarmour.bsky.social
Cathy can’t be heard above the boos in the arena, both when she gives Aces the trophy and A’ja her MVP award
mcoley.bsky.social
Exactly. All Star hater performance from the fans.
mcoley.bsky.social
Technically they greyed out the screen, but yeah, they did it twice when she was giving the big trophy. When she did the MVP trophy they had a new angle that cut out most of the fans. I'll see if I can get a screenshot somewhere.
mcoley.bsky.social
To be honest, I don't follow the NFL a whole lot, but that is a fair point.
