Yes but what if this was about vibes and how I feel? I don’t have any money left over after I pay my mortgage, contribute to my 401k, pay my bills, go out to eat four times a week, and buy two new outfits every month. This means I’m living paycheck to paycheck.

People are, on the whole, much better off than they were 5 years ago because wages have increased, particularly for the lowest-paid workers.

This does not mean that economic inequality is a solved problem, that poverty has ended, or that poor people don’t struggle.

The 65th percentile household income is one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year. The idea that everyone making less than 120k is “paycheck to paycheck” is laughable.

Elder millennial here. I lost my shitty post-recession 1099 job in 2020. I immediately doubled my income by going on the enhanced unemployment benefits, then went to grad school, where I had a good-paying research gig, then immediately found full time employment after graduating. I am doing GREAT.
