Anyone got any bright ideas about tackling AI use at A level. Issues around homework in particular. Thank you @ecrmaths.bsky.social @mathsjem.bsky.social @drbennison.bsky.social

Left: Requires triangle-interior-angle-sum and straight-angle-sum. 3 steps. Slower?

Right: Exterior Angle Theorem (Euclid 1–32). Requires corresponding and alternate angles. 1 step. Faster?

Right feels cleaner to me ... I wonder what pupils would think?

I've had in the past students finding it difficult to decide if an expression would factorise into a single or double bracket. So I created a mix of 20 questions to try and build that skill of deciding which one to use. Unsurprisingly a lot of them struggled. Better now than an exam!

Yesterday I spoke about patterns in Don Steward's answers at #mathsconf39. Coincidentally I was revising with my Y7 daughter this morning (she has a test tomorrow) & gave her two of Don's algebra pyramids. She was delighted to get the same answer twice so I checked the rest... :)

I remember I had a colleague who was stuck on a FP1 question because she was trying to use algebraic division - she asked for my help and I did it in seconds using a grid. I’ll see if I can find it. All I can remember is it had a p as a coefficient! It was a great example of logic over algorithm.

I don’t know - something big like £2k pa. It doesn’t come out the maths budget. Every school in my MAT has it - considered worth it for the quality and impact.

Hi Maths folk, does anyone know of handy booklets to use for A-level maths intervention? Hoping for something that has questions that are easier and then build up to more exam style? Thanks for any help (also anything for Alevel FM would be appreciated)

A page of logical equivalents to help students convert "A only if B" statements (which melt my brain) into "A implies B" or "if A then B" (which don't).

Fine, but we’re not expecting them to mark it properly and give themselves a mark out of eighty - they just use it to check answers.
