I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Fun fact: last week I got my royalty statement. It was for the last 6 months, and it was for my two books that have been banned.

Just so you know how rich we get off banned books, that check was a whopping $51.

No, not a badge of honor. No, not money-making. KIDS JUST LOSE ACCESS TO BOOKS.

RUN for school board. RUN for library board. Tell your congresspeople.

The Normalization of Book Banning
This report offers a window into the complex and extensive climate of censorship between July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

There are only a few people who are trying to decide what everyone's child can or can't read. Do you want that? No? Then FIGHT. Speak up. Tell your library how much you appreciate them. Tell your school librarian. Tell your school board. Go to school board meetings. (4/?)

"But they can just get it from the public library!" you respond. See b above.

Just because YOU can go out and buy any book you want to read, doesn't mean everyone can. If libraries don't have books, they are inaccessible to many people. (3/?)

If someone can't access the book in their school library, and they a) can't afford to buy it and/or b) can't get to a local bookstore to buy it and/or c) don't have access to the internet at home it IS, in effect, banned. They cannot read the book. (2/?)

"If you can still buy a book it's not banned."

This is the argument I'm seeing lots of places. And it shows all the privilege and ignorance and ableism of those who shout it. It's absolute bullshit. (1/?)

Had a lovely time celebrating @zombicatures.bsky.social’s graphic novel release party with so many Colorado kidlit pals! Get yourself a copy of The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang. You won’t regret it.

I hate to ask but things are dire here for our Queen Bean. She can’t breathe and we need to get her to a vet, we’re losing her and it’s hard to watch her like this. If she’s going, she shouldn’t have to suffer like this. Please, please share, donate only if able! #MutualAid #HelpSky #DogsofBluesky

2/3 2) I wish there weren’t so many books that most people would already be familiar with that don’t need promotion. 3) There are not enough more recently published books in this list. There are AMAZING authors and illustrators creating now and they should be celebrated and shared.

My mom shared this article w/me and I, a professional early literacy librarian, have thoughts. 1) not all of these are developmentally appropriate for toddlers (although good books). www.nytimes.com/2025/10/01/b... 1/3

Random thoughts: all those little cafes and cute gift shops named __&__ often have the same syllable emphasis - first and last. And the first word has two syllables. Example: Olive & Finch. Rosehip & Fern. Petrol & Gas. Two of those are not real places.

A little boy on the tube is so worried about his soft-toy lion falling on the floor that he is saying to him 'Hold on tight Sycamore Jones!'

Art by Simon Heath. Words by me.

Is it weird that I’m listening to my toddler rave playlist in the car… by myself? Nary a toddler in sight.

Hooray! Hooray! It’s Eugenia Wang’s Book birthday, and that’s NOT bad luck for you! Congratulations @zombicatures.bsky.social on your debut graphic novel! Everyone go get it; it’s amazing!

Strangely, a half-inflated swimming pool is NOT the strangest thing I’ve hauled in my car for work.
Photograph looking in the back window of an SUV. Through the window we can see a plastic swimming pool lying over other things.

When I adopted my second cat, I changed her name from the one the shelter gave her to Beatrice. But sometimes I wish I had kept the original. Because imagine coming home to this sweet face and saying “oh, hi, Kevin.”
