Born With Teeth was very entertaining, especially for someone as interested in early modern English theatre and history as me. I can’t believe I nearly missed it. Ncuti Gatwa was great but Edward Bluemel was superb as Will Shakespeare.
Looking forward to catching Born With Teeth with Ncuti Gatwa & Edward Bluemel on the show’s last day.

It’s disgusting how the far right have tried to politicise the poppy when it should be an apolitical symbol of peace and remembrance.
This toothless licensing scheme has been snuck in by councils without any publicity so I’m not surprised she didn’t know. Because of this story, I found out the licence was introduced in my area last month. It seems to serve no purpose and will only drive up rents even further.
Still can’t get my head round the bookshop in Manchester where books are shelved by title, not by author or genre (with no consistency over whether titles starting with “The” come under T or not). I guess it suits browsing but it messed with my head too much!
A great time last night seeing Nick Winston’s wonderfully silly, arch and funny production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein The Musical at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre. Ore Oduba is brilliant as Dr Frankenstein, leading a top-notch cast.

At Manchester Victoria station and there’s a long queue for Greggs while the Starbucks is virtually deserted.

Spicing up a grim northern work trip by spending an evening with Young Frankenstein at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre! 👻

Riot Women is as glorious as everyone’s been telling me.

The BBC adaptation of Rónán Hession’s Leonard & Hungry Paul is utterly charming, with a great cast led by Alex Lawther, Laurie Kynaston & Jamie-Lee O'Donnell. How could I resist the story of a sad socially inadequate ghost writer?

Another “Brexit benefit”? A clothing company is exiting the UK market after 25 years because of “the complexity and cost of cross-border operations between the UK and Europe in the current trade environment”.

More nonsense. It’s a good thing that UK-born British citizens don’t need to be proficient to “A Level English” standard (whatever that means). Literacy surveys show the average reading age among British adults is 9 to 11.

(Also B1 is NOT equivalent to GCSE English.)

Loving new BBC3 comedy Film Club with a super cast led by Aimee Lou Wood & Nabhaan Rizwan plus Suranne Jones fabulous as mum Suz.

Phew. I was worried what I’d wake up to
I’ve seen she’s shared some horrific anti-LGBT+ content on social media and in interviews. I worry how much influence they have on police treatment of LGBT+ people in their counties.
I find it very concerning that a police commissioner is allying herself with an anti-LGBT+ organisation, especially as her beat covers Brighton.
The Conservative Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner to open the FiLiA hate conference, with this coded incitement to hatred.
Because they paid him a lot of money to speak and to now promote their courses in the UK. He’s not an MP, he’s a salesman for hire.
I appreciate there might be people who admire Hanya Yanagihara's A Little Life as a creative work but are there “fans” of what must be the darkest, most depressing book that most of us will ever read?
Visited Quantum Untangled, a fascinating new (free) exhibition at Science Gallery London near London Bridge, featuring artwork inspired by quantum physics. Pictured are installations by Robin Baumgarten and Conrad Shawcross - best observed in person.

Several of the kids doing English in my time at Manchester went into accountancy. Yes, journalism is not a profession for anyone who wants to be well-off anymore although it was better when I started out in the 90s.
