We are working to provide supplies so families can stay safe. We are collecting shelf stable food and hygiene items for families, elders and those imperiled by increased enforcement actions in Chicago. Once we receive supplies, we are working with our community to distribute safely.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

he said they unhooked the front engine car (his description and neither of us know as much about trains as everyone on here) and then towed it to the metra platform but they had to spend a long time figuring out how to get him off the train, the platform was too low

I know someone who was on this train and they had a huge problem to get a friend in a wheelchair off the train because the metra platform didn't align with the Amtrak train 😑

1/2 I have never once been to Rosehill Cemetery & found the May Chapel open & empty. Until yesterday.

we had to work pretty hard at making this name change, lori lightfoot made some asinine requirements for this to occur

for example, she watched public comment to ensure she had political cover to allow CPS to make the change to Indigenous Peoples' Day and then made a call when she was satisfied

chicago public schools changed today's celebration to Indigenous Peoples' Day in the February 2020 board meeting

the day before a named holiday in a school calendar requires the teaching of the history related to that named holiday and we wanted to de-center colonialism in curriculum

Aldermen vow ‘war with CPS’ after school district cancels Columbus Day for Indigenous Peoples Day

But supporters of the change denied it was anti-Italian. “I am beyond thrilled that my daughter will experience at school and learn about Native histories and current accomplishments,” one parent said...
