speaking from deep family experience

know your rights does not work when fascism and state violence come knocking on your door and your rivers turn red

know your exits
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
whistles don't make exits

i see a lot of virtue signaling, layers of control, blankets of comfort and patronizing action

i hope many, many more people will open their doors to make safe harbor

and for those of us who are precarious, much love ♥️♥️
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
know your rights is not a valid solution out of active fascism

know your networks, know your food sources, know your exits
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
i don't really see us democracy-ing our way out of active fascism but electoralism never seems to serve who it purports to serve either

the situation at Broadview also like centers a certain kind of person and it doesn't ensure safety for another kind of person and how does that distance close is a question I'm not sure is getting asked much

Think about how common place this used to be, now compare that with EVERY task and skill people are outsourcing to resource-wasting LLMs and tell me we're heading anywhere good.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

he said they unhooked the front engine car (his description and neither of us know as much about trains as everyone on here) and then towed it to the metra platform but they had to spend a long time figuring out how to get him off the train, the platform was too low
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
I know someone who was on this train and they had a huge problem to get a friend in a wheelchair off the train because the metra platform didn't align with the Amtrak train 😑

1/2 I have never once been to Rosehill Cemetery & found the May Chapel open & empty. Until yesterday.

Short thread with some interior details in the light of day.

Horatio N May Memorial Chapel
Architect: Joseph Lyman Silsbee, 1899
Color photo of the interior of a Gothic chapel, taken from the entrance and facing the front. Dark wooden pews line either side of an aisle covered in a runner with red as the dominant color. Light shines in through stained glass windows, illuminating a partially visible wooden vaulted ceiling. Color photo looking straight up at a wooden vaulted ceiling. A light fixture hangs from the junction of four sections. On either side of two of these sections can be glimpsed the pointed arches of stained glass windows. Color photo of a portion of a wall in the chapel. Dark wooden pews stretch to the walls, which are covered in green and tan tile, with a green and tan frieze of Gothic tracery ornamenting the top. Two sets of stained glass windows in yellow, white and red sit on either side of a dark wooden truss; the transom of the window to the far right is open. Color photo taken from inside the chapel, facing the doors leading outside. Bright sunlight out side obscures some details, but the glorious stained glass transoms above the doors are visible, as is a glimpse of the ornate mosaic ceiling just inside.

we had to work pretty hard at making this name change, lori lightfoot made some asinine requirements for this to occur

for example, she watched public comment to ensure she had political cover to allow CPS to make the change to Indigenous Peoples' Day and then made a call when she was satisfied
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
it's not enough but it's a place to hold

the very next year when my daughter's teacher had a conversation about the reason behind the name change, we were all in lockdown

so i had the privilege of hearing my daughter explain to her class that Columbus was a colonizer

chicago public schools changed today's celebration to Indigenous Peoples' Day in the February 2020 board meeting

the day before a named holiday in a school calendar requires the teaching of the history related to that named holiday and we wanted to de-center colonialism in curriculum
Aldermen vow ‘war with CPS’ after school district cancels Columbus Day for Indigenous Peoples Day
But supporters of the change denied it was anti-Italian. “I am beyond thrilled that my daughter will experience at school and learn about Native histories and current accomplishments,” one parent said...

something like this is inevitable, women of color are always subject to the politics of foreclosure and any willful woman will be policed

the problem isn't the cameras, the access to data or the loopholes, it's the control, punishment and policing
