I cannot understand people who are frightened of unhoused people. I interact with unhoused people every time i go out in Chicago. They're mostly friendly and cool! They have problems i don't have but that doesn't make them scary or dangerous! Just share the sidewalk, you fascist baby!!!

you can refer them to merriam-webster’s page on singular they usage, which both takes the pressure off you to explain it and lends legitimacy for a person to whom it may be unfamiliar? i’ve done this when i used they in the past, and also have sent pages on the subject from other style guides
