Watched a bunch of old commercials starring comic strip characters with @bitterkarella.bsky.social and @teeaitchare.bsky.social. Listen to me react in real time to Charlie Brown handing out chocolate cigars to his friends AND HIS DOG!

Charlie Brown offers Linus a chocolate cigar because Ford made a car. Don’t try to make sense of it. Popeye the Sailor flexes his biceps after eating a bowl of Instant Quaker Oatmeal. Garfield and his creator, Jim Davis, in an American Express card commercial. Andy Capp eating a Kit-Kat bar.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

If you're a teacher or a parent, you'll hate this. If you're a junior high boy, there has never been a more perfect shirt for you. I was recently messing around with some vintage 7-ELEVEn designs and I had this idea. As much as I hate to feed the six-seven monster, I had to.

The names of the ancient Sages from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment are all derived from ancient subjects.

Agraston - from Acasta Gneiss
Qia - from Myllokunmingia
Ardi - from, well, Ardi
Raphica - from Archaeopteryx lithographica
Graphic showing the names of four of the Sages from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The Sage of Fire, Agraston, derives his name from 'Acasta Gneiss', a rock that contains the oldest known earth crust. The Sage of Water, Qia, derives her name from 'Myllokunmingia', one of the oldest vertebrates. The Sage of Lightning, Ardi, derives her name from 'Ardi', one of the earliest human-like specimens dating back 4.4 million years. The Sage of Wind, Raphica, derives his name from 'Archaeopteryx Lithographica', a late Jurrasic ancestor of birds.

It used to be Doctor Who. I’m working my way very slowly through that, and it’s been wonderful.

So now my biggest pop culture blond spot is probably Twin Peaks.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a major plot point are “Secret Stones”, which are just straight-up magatama from Japanese legend:
A set of five jade magatama: they’re all shaped roughly like just one half of the taoist yin-yang symbol, with a notch through the head for a string. A closeup of Ganondorf’s hand holding a Secret Stone

I’m sorry is that TV’s Brian Austin Green playing Qix on the Game Boy?

Finally got my copy of Lock-On 6! I’ve been excited this one for ever since I pitched an article about Ocarina’s dev history to them in early 2023. It’s a stunning book.

Very proud to have my name in here, and honored to have @amilcarpinna.bsky.social’s incredible art with my words
A photo of a hardcover book with an illustration of Celes in her opera outfit — in Yoshitaka Amano’s trademark style! A photo of issue 6 next to issues 1 and 2. #6 looks about x4 the size of the other two. A lavish two-page illsutration of Ocarina’s Hyrule Field, with Link riding Epona filling the space on the left, and wide open negative space to the right. A photo of a two-page spread of writing, about Ocarina’s development history

The #Phillies have faced the #Dodgers 5 times in the postseason, beating them the last 3.

Looking forward to a 4th straight.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten because of a podcast is this drawing of @horrormoviebbq.bsky.social and me from the co-creator of one of my favorite Halloween specials, “Witch’s Night Out.”
Drawing of me (left) and Chad as characters in the style of Witch’s Night Out from the co-creator.
