Slaysian Royale: Well-deserved win, though not my personal fave. My least fave queen also had the best talent portion. Hilarious. I hope next time they bring the high-ranking Asian queens from the other franchises (high-ranking Thailand queens especially). Felt quite rigged.

I find the Sasuke storyline very hard to watch. It is really overly wrought and emo, and he doesn't have any likeable features (no sense of humor). Sucks that it is so much of the show. I know people find Naruto annoying, but he is much more fun than Sasuke.

Gaara was really a favorite the first time I watched this... because he had a fruity ace vibe that I shared. Plus, being crazy and angry all the time I related to. He seems a bit less fun in this watch but still a fave!

Rewatching Naruto through a queer lens! It was 10 years before I came out when I first watched it. I think reading it this way is interesting because I think Naruto has a gay legacy which is pretty massive in the culture.

But Naruto's sexy no jutsu complicates the mostly negative trans presentation. Maybe it's too comedic to take seriously, but it does echo Western comedic cartoons like Bugs Bunny where the gender play pokes fun at the rigid binary. Though Naruto is mostly too lenient on sex pest behaviour

Someone should write a paper about trans-ness in Naruto. One of the first villains, Haku, presents as a woman in plainclothes, at a time when there was minimal discussion of transness in mass media. Orochimura establishes a lot of nonbinary tropes in villainy I think. Sakon and Ukon also femme

A fave thing about Naruto is that it creates some very sympathetic villains with interesting backstories. It makes the fight scenes much more exciting because the fights are genuinely a part of the character development, and also you care more about the outcome because you like the villains too.

interesting how much Sakura's thoughts are presented when other Naruto characters don't have the same treatment. it says a lot about how performative femininity is, especially in Japanese culture... Because her nasty inner thoughts contrast her sweet demeanor.. or maybe it's not that deep.
