I was looking for a few old photos and it’s kind of crazy to see how much curlier my hair is since I let it grow back in without bleaching it to hell and back. See alt text for hair history/details.

This photo was taken in 2022 and at this point I’d been bleaching and dyeing my hair green for three years, with probably 13 years of bleaching and box dyeing my hair black alternately. My wave pattern was mostly 2A with a smattering of 2B and 2C pieces. It was so long and heavy that any curl pattern not destroyed by bleach was weighed down. This is pretty much how it would air dry. I cut 21 inches off a few months later.

This was about two months after my big chop in August 2022. At this point I’d only bleached my hair twice but even with it short on the sides and back and long on top, there was still so much of it that it kind of weighed itself down. This was the first time that I had really bleached and dyed my hair myself. Up to that point my best friend had to do it for me because it was too long for me to reach it all. My curl pattern at this point was like a 2C-3A on its best days.

This was October 2023. At this point I had bleached my hair and dyed it different colors ten times in the 16 months between my big haircut and then. I don’t even know what to call this pattern lmao. It’s somewhere between a 1C and a 2A but mostly just looks fried.

This photo was taken in October 2025. In April 2024 I gave myself a buzz cut. My hair was fried and when I got fired from my job by my father, I had a bit of a menty b and shaved it all off. I believe hair holds memory and trauma and I wanted it gone. I had the buzzcut until I started growing it out in January 2025. This is the grow out of that buzzcut into the haircut I plan on keeping for the foreseeable future. My curl pattern is very much 3A-3B. I haven’t ever seen my hair this curly. It’s always been long and weighed down or fried by bleach and permanent dye. I love my curls and I take much better care of my hair now. And I’ve had two and a half years to get better at bleaching my own hair.

This doesn’t even include the specialists I need to be seeing that I haven’t been able to get into or pay for with insurance. The sleep specialist I saw for four minutes in May would’ve been $400. My Spravato visits would’ve been $700/visit for 12 visits. That’s $8400 just for a series.

My medications would be $3400/mo without insurance. I see my therapist weekly which would be $660/mo. I see my psychiatrist monthly which would be $160. I see my doctor every 3 mo which averages to $83/mo. That’s over $50,000/year. I don’t even make that much. DeSantis can go fuck himself.

Anytime there is a flood in the continental US, it is the biggest story across all social media.

Apparently, the same as not true for a catastrophe in Alaska. There was a typhoon yesterday morning and much of western Alaska is now underwater with homes with people in them just floating away.
