Large intestine done! Now I just have to figure out how to do the small intestine in a way that doesn’t blur it all together

This one is a friend's birthday present but I'll keep that in mind for future ones!

You're going to assume that I, a woman born in Israel, just learned the word Zionism in the past two years?

Feelings aren't facts, buddy

Johnson: "Together with my friend Speaker Ohana of the Israeli Knesset we're going to rally speakers and presidents of parliaments around the world so we will jointly nominate President Donald J Trump for next year's Nobel Prize. No one has ever deserved that prize more & that is an objective fact."

(I say "for the most part" because I think in the desire to combat charges of antisemitism there was often a downplaying of the — often minimal! — antisemitism that did exist in these spaces, but that's... well its a whole mental clusterfuck for me, lol)

(I had mixed feelings on the campus protests because many of the demands seemed performative/not geared towards constructively aiding Palestine but for the most part didn't see them as broadly antisemitic)

Was it because they conflated everyone with a handful of bad actors, or for other reasons?

These points are so basic that they honestly feel kindergarten level to me AND YET it is also very clear that a lot of folks struggle to grasp things like "slogans do not have unambiguous and universal meanings even if you want them to"

... the same way that many leftists would argue that the call for Palestinian self-determination is not inherently anti-Jewish. ANYWAY, if you're in the former camp, of course you're going to see a sign that says "no Zionists" as an obvious social justice call. For the latter, it's antisemitic.

The one I think about a lot is the way many leftists have adopted the view that Zionism is inherently anti-Palestinian and thus racist and treat Zionism/t and racism/t as synonymous, whereas many Jews see it as a philosophy of Jewish self-determination that is inherently neutral on Palestinians...

I don't think this is a particularly useful contribution to the conversation nor do I think this group is a major player

People talk a lot about bubbles/polarization while ignoring that when it comes to I/P you have two camps who are *literally speaking different languages*, where things like "Free Palestine" or "Zionist" or "globalize the intifada" can have completely opposite meanings depending on the speaker

I don't agree with those people — I joined the calls for ceasefire pretty early on and was at the JVP ceasefire protest at Grand Central in late October 2023 — but I also think that painting them as disingenuous is not actually helpful for the healthy discourse.

Did some total ghouls paint a desire to see a cessation of all violence as antisemitic? Yes. But there were also plenty of people who, for whatever reason, heard the call for ceasefire as one-sided, and assumed it meant "stop attacking Hamas and let them attack Jews," which they say as antisemitic.

Something that a lot of people either missed or have forgotten is that over the past two years there's been a massive gap between what people *intended* to communicate and how their words were heard, and that contributed to the phenomenon discussed below.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.
luxalptraum.com
The ongoing issue with all of this is that what people *intend* and what is *heard* are misaligned, and thus someone who saw themselves as calling for peace got heard as saying violence against Jews is fine and was thus read as an antisemite. It's just a lot of crosstalk.
luxalptraum.com
I think it's a bit more complicated than that, particularly because in the early days of all of this, many people heard "ceasefire" as a one-sided demand — i.e. Israel has to stop the fight but Hamas gets to continue the attack — but I also think it's not in good faith to portray things as Ifill is.

Indeed, my intensive OCD therapy paid off!

Thankfully that one quickly became funny

What’s it like to have OCD? The other day I noticed that I’ve been neglecting to refill my soap dispenser, remembered that alcoholics often struggle to achieve basic tasks, and asked myself, “Am I an alcoholic?” despite the fact that I maybe have one drink a week, if that.

Oh yeah that I either turned off or ignored, but I still see the trends where it’s like “your running pace just got slightly slower! You’re not burning as many calories as you were a few weeks ago!”
