Not sure. EX.1. (article 8 test) applies to those with & without status. But I don't see immediately how those with a 12+ month sentence criminal record fit in now... Need to read it more...

Yes they have a part at the beginning that points to the human rights framework elsewhere in the rules (app.FM in article 8 case). I'm getting my head around the implications of that bit. I don't think it is clear.

Changes to Part 9 (suitability) look pretty harsh. Basically anyone married to a British citizen with a custodial sentence of 12 months+ has a permanent ban to the UK? proportionate? Am I missing something?

Botswana visa free travel stopped from 15:00 today.

Graduate route reduced to 18 months for most.

English language requirements for several work routes will be increased to B2 level from Jan 2026.

I just don't see the gov. creating a bespoke scheme. Far too much political danger. Easier to take the hit on house building figures than increasing migration.

I'm glad the government will not introduce employment tribunal fees, but it's not true that "everyone, no matter their income" can get "access to justice" under the current system.

The barriers are endless & if you overcome them & win, you still might not even get the money you are owed

There is a more pressing issue. Ministers must ensure that the vast numbers of immigrants who arrived in the so-called Boriswave of 2020-21 are not automatically absorbed into the permanent population. They are about to cross the the five-year threshold into ILR, yet Labour continues to dither. Ms Mahmood must freeze the status of this huge cohort while a new residency regime is finalised. A million or more extra permanent residents in these islands, let in on the nod, is simply unacceptable. Finally, the home secretary must acquaint herself, and the public, with an accurate estimate of the actual number of foreign nationals living here, what taxes they pay and what services they consume. Without hard data, all the political parties are fumbling around in the dark.
