Do it scared!

Just continuously reminding myself, and out loud here in case it's of any help to others, that bravery is not the absence of fear but rather a determination to act despite fear.

To be fair, Spindlehorse has a history of their pilot episodes acting as Episode 1, not just a pitch, which has only worked in their favor for Helluva Boss imo. So I think its a little on them that people dont know what to expect here. It was OK if its just a pitch, and hope theres a real episode 1

the absorbtion of therian into otherkin culture in the 2010s contributed to a prevalence of more spiritual ideas because of the cultural difference (otherkin and paganism were near synonymous for a long time), and now its reversed and therians are absorbing otherkin theres a return to previous form?
lovequeer.bsky.social
Its funny bc the popularity of one perspective over another actually ebbs and flows over time. When I Awakened in 2008, Werelist was pretty full of therians who created a culture of self-study and had a popular hypothesis that therianthropy itself was a kind of neurodivergence. I wonder if (1/2)

Wolf Quest omg how is this not on the tierlist yet? It didnt turn me, but it was there for me in its earliest stages right after i freshly awakened.

very excited to be giving a talk at this year's Furry Studies conference :3

if you need something to do this Halloween consider tuning in 🎃

the program is wonderfully stacked and I'm honored to be a part of it!! furrystudies.org @furrystudies.org
"Meet the presenters" poster for the upcoming Furry Studies conference:

Juniper Clark
Presenting: "Chasing our Tails: (Trans)Species Critique and Coalitional Politics"

Reserve tickets for virtual or in person conference attendance at https://furrystudies.org/

Friday October 31st at Pacific Lutheran University Q: What first interested you in “furry” anthropomorphic animal characters?

A: As a young (and very confused) queer person, the online furry/therian art ecosystem allowed me to explore my gender and sexuality in a way I really couldn’t have had I not stumbled onto it. Even before that point though, I very fondly remember RP-ing on those early Warrior Cats forums…

Q: What does furry mean to you personally?

A: Alongside providing meaningful community (important for me, as a trans critter), furry lets me imagine a queer transspecies politics in resistance to the shallow premises of humanism and its exclusionary logics. To be an animal, in this sense, is to feel, glimpse, and hear otherwise worlds, bodily configurations, and more-than-human communities.

Q: Who or what inspired your fursona?

A: She is me and I am her – a muddling of species as playfully speculative as it is reflective of those I consider kin. Among other things, she pays homage to home and habitat (red fox) and speaks to the broader processes of domestication I find myself embedded within (border collie).

Thank you for sharing, because I had no idea this was happening and Im Very Interested in hearing what you have to say 👀

essay idea: the uncanny valley of being mixed race, the intersection of faceblindness and never seeing your own face reflected back at you
lovequeer.bsky.social
Its a little different for everyone, but yea the gist is that we identify as other species, for a wide variety of reasons. This is an old webcomic with a cute way of illustrating some of the possibilities. We also have a long community history of essay writing about it. m.tapas.io/episode/293008

Another more serious one. It's something that's been bothering us lately--being in a marginalised community is hard enough, but (1/2)

doing some woodburning n experimenting with drilling holes in coyote teeth for future projects
a coyote tooth, acorn with letters burned on it, and some wood tokens with designs burned on them, one a spiral and the other a theta delta surrounded by paw prints and a triple moon.

hdh fjdj fucking hell im sorry, i misread the entire first sentance and didnt realize it was a question from someone else, and then my comprehension didn't recover from there. Dyslexia hit me bad on this one. have some informative sources i guess lol
lovequeer.bsky.social
The simplest definition i can give is that otherkin are those who experience being nonhuman, either instead of or in addition to human.
otherkin.net and otherkin.wiki are good sources to begin with

And fwiw I felt a lot of my earliest experiences of species dysphoria as being jealous of my childhood dog and upset that I couldnt move like she did. thats a possible manifestation of it. Its up to you if it feels dysphoric or not though, and you can relieve the feelings the same way regardless.
lovequeer.bsky.social
Thats entirely within the realm of therianthropy and always has been. The culture on this site, and to some extent in general, puts dysphoria very front and center, but it's not something everyone feels, nor a defining feature of therianthropes. Check this out: m.tapas.io/episode/293008
