"It's the classic way that military coups happen. They say, 'these revolutionaries are about to take over the government, so *we* had to take over the government!'"

I think Clinton and Obama got this. I think it's a feature of a successful campaign.

New study in Nature by Lin et al shows how the sea-level rise from the melting Ice Age ice (a total of 120 meters rise) ended thousands of years ago.
Until our fossil fuel use started a new phase of rising seas.
Graph shows the global mean rate of sea level rise.

It doesn’t matter what I think. Also, none of this would ever happen. But if I had a zillion dollars:

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…
If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

Solar and storage have made up 82% of new energy capacity so far this year.

Without it, America will lose the AI race.

I love kids. I have two of them. They’re amazing. However, kids are the absolute least self aware, clumsiest little puffins on the planet.

Please don’t drive tonight unless you have to, and if you do drive, drive super slow and pay 100% attention at all times.

I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.
🔥Hot take: I agree with Trump that we should get rid of the filibuster. It's anti-democratic. Right now Dems are preventing Rs from owning the full chaos they're supporting. Let the public feel the consequences of R policies. Short term pain, long term necessity. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/31/u...

I’ve been thinking a lot about a new kind of polling I’d like to see. We have polling that measures public opinion, which is obviously important, but I’d love to see a little more empirical work on public knowledge: what do voters know about politics and policy?

Too many Americans either didn’t care or didn’t believe. Hopefully they do now.👇

Every country in the world has figured out that all they have to do is give Trump some amazing sounding false promise to announce so he can take credit for a “win” and they can get whatever they want in return. He craves personal credit and fluffery - substance is irrelevant.

The President wants to use the military to crack down on Americans who are exercising their 1st Amendment rights to oppose him. I can’t think of a better reason to insist on exercising those rights.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.
