No comebacks: Any elected official convicted of a crime while in office simply cannot serve again, not can they be appointed or assigned to any position in government service. (Perhaps allow a 2/3rds vote by Congress to override this, to allow for corrupt prosecution.)

Remove qualified immunity.

Allow a national “vote of no confidence” , followed by a snap election.

Require Congress approve pardons. Do not permit pardons for crimes committed in the furtherance of government actions.

No, my solution is to accept you can’t stop people from voting for the “wrong” candidate, but you CAN limit the harm they can do.

Remove executive orders and emergency powers.

Remove any power to assign troops w/out Congressional approval.

Give real teeth to the Hatch Act and other rules.

The "NOT AGAIN!" is the best part.

"God damn it, you know how hard it is to train new Robins? Every freakin' week, gotta find a new one..."
lizardky.bsky.social
Oh, you mean people who say "My book's genre is Sci-Fi Found Family Cozy Murder Mystery Billionaire Werewolf Angelpunk Isekai MPreg Romance"?

I retract my previous comment and now fully support your proposal.

"We have met the enemy, and he is me."

I guess I'd better learn to carve a shiv, then, 'cause those are things I like discussing. :)

Your video might actually be worth watching (assuming it contains no AI), but I'll never know, because I see AI, I block. Period.

And if more of us did this, maybe, just maybe, we'd stop seeing it.
lizardky.bsky.social
Why do people use crappy AI thumbnails on YT videos when the topic of the video already provides a wide range of useful images?

If your video is of a computer game, movie, TV show -- just USE A FUCKING SCREENSHOT OF IT! Using AI just makes me say "Do not recommend this channel".

You have GOT to have better things to do with your time than imagine a political system based on Magic Truth Fairies.

Well, I'm being kind. You may not.
lizardky.bsky.social
And is this local or national? Are people running for city council of East Bumfuck judged by some committee HQ'ed in DC? How fast can they act? Do you know how many different elections go on in the US? Or does each small town have its own Council Of Truth Tellers? Well, that'd NEVER go wrong.

Don't say "THE PEOPLE" or "We'll work it out!" THE PEOPLE, all 330 million of them, won't form a hive-mind to decide. Some tiny group of them, a dozen? Less? Will have the authority. (Though you haven't really specified the punishment, either. One lie==ineligible to hold office for life? What?)
lizardky.bsky.social
Why do you suppose anyone would accept any law that said "You're not allowed to vote for this liar!" when it's quite clear people always have, always will? Who could enforce such a law, and how would it not become an oligarchy which selects candidates they like and jails all the others for "lying"?
lizardky.bsky.social
Really, the more I think about this, the stupider it gets.

Your argument is "We need to hold politicians to a higher standard!" Who is "we"? We, The People, continually and routinely elect politicians we KNOW are lying.

Trump's supporters, looking at the hungry face-eating leopard: "But not me, right, because I look white. Right?"

Today I was thinking about small kindnesses, simple inexpensive things that brighten a day, and I thought about how the receptionist at my school saved me from humiliation in front of the Headmaster on account of having left my belt in a vase.

OK, that's a different case. I have not studied how immigration judges are hired, assigned, or fired, at all, so I have no basis for an intelligent opinion on what changes might be possible and what the effects might be over the long term.
lizardky.bsky.social
Point blank, your idea is silly, unworkable, and, if somehow implemented, would make the problems of democracy EVEN WORSE. Let's not do that, shall we?
lizardky.bsky.social
So if THE PEOPLE do not have the *actual* *power* to act, who does? And if THE PEOPLE want to knowingly elect a liar -- we have hard proof they DO, look in the White House -- who should be empowered to decide "No, no, you can't vote for him."
lizardky.bsky.social
A thousand fact checkers have debunked a thousand Trump comments (typically, per week), and no one cares. You somehow want a system where THE PEOPLE determine THE TRUTH, and then... do SOMETHING, I am not sure WHAT, and are ignoring THE PEOPLE currently don't GAF.
lizardky.bsky.social
This was part of a speech he apparently plagiarized from English politician Brian Kinnock. Under your regime, is such a "lie" disqualifying under law?

If you say "No, it's just the people need to know!" Well, you've just invented "fact checking". You may note most people just ignore that.
lizardky.bsky.social
A system that would work fast enough to affect an election will mandate there be no response, no time to evaluate evidence, no complexities of context, intent, or effect.

That is self evidently bad.

Further, what is a "lie"? Biden famously claimed he came from "a family of coal miners" in 1988.
lizardky.bsky.social
Please define such a mechanism that does not simply mean a demagogue convinces "THE PEOPLE" that someone is lying.

Court processes, such as fraud or defamation, take years, with many complex rules, appeals, and so on.
