Stekkjastaur, the first one, came last night. He likes to sneak into the sheep shed and drink the milk from the ewes, but he has a lot of trouble doing so because both of his legs are stiff and unbendy.

Today I learnt that “mortgage” comes from the Old French mort (dead) and gage (pledge). The word literally translates to "dead pledge” because you will only be free of it once you’re dead.

Yesterday I got to lay eyes on the one and only Codex Regius Poetic Edda.

This little book is by far the most valuable book in Iceland, and arguably for the whole of Northern Europe. It was written during the 1270s and it is the sole source of so much that we know about Norse Mythology.
