I designed the wraparound cover for the paperback version of Risen In Flame, the first book in my Cart the Soulless fantasy series. Proofs arrived last week from the printer and everything looks good (also did a hardcover version). I'll be launching this as a Kickstarter fairly soon. I also did two character drawings (of which I'll be offering prints on a reward tier for the Kickstarter).

I notice, as I am standing in line to check out at an antique store with probably way more security cameras than it needs (and a live feed of same, like someone whose gaze you can’t quite catch — since the camera is in a different spot than the monitor, when you see yourself in the screen you look like you are looking away), that the SMILE, YOU’RE ON CAMERA sign is grainy, oblique, reversed behind me, behind my image — in other words, it is also on camera. Kate Colby’s Paradoxx, a prose book in 102 parts (I love that — you know what they say about a book’s structure teaching us how to read it, and this one skips us to one course past the intro), quintessentially seeks that ON-CAMERA-on-camera moment of resonance between representation and represented, and especially between memory and the “present” that a) we live in and make daily and b) is hiding in the middle of representation.
