Title Page Handbook of Media Use Abstract: Durch die fortlaufenden technischen Innovationen digitaler Medien ist Mediennutzung nicht mehr wie früher räumlich oder zeitlich beschränkt, sondern permanent möglich. Daraus ergeben sich Veränderungen im Nutzungsverhalten, das zunehmend parallel zu anderen Tätigkeiten sowie fragmentiert über den Tag hinweg stattfindet. Doch auch kognitive und motivationale Veränderungen entstehen beispielsweise durch soziale Erwartungen ständiger Erreichbarkeit, die an Mediennutzer:innen gerichtet werden. So entwickeln einige Mediennutzer:innen ein Mindset permanenter Verbundenheit sowie starke digitale Mediengewohnheiten. In dem Kapitel werden zentrale technische, verhaltensbezogene, kognitive sowie motivationale Veränderungen in der digitalen Medienlandschaft zusammengetragen. Anschließend werden deren Auswirkungen auf den Rezeptionsprozess dargestellt. Dies umfasst u. a. die Informationsverarbeitung und Selbstregulation während der Rezeption sowie neue soziale Rezeptionsmodi. Abschließend diskutiert das Kapitel Implikationen permanenter Verbundenheit für die selbstbestimmte Mediennutzung.
