Research tasks from Legends Arceus kind of return, no longer specific to a Pokémon species but more broadly available on various topics, with items locked behind progression.

Scratches a similar completionism itch.

Tasks include catching creatures of specific types, surveying zones, and evolving pokemon in vaious ways.

For those curious - Shiny Pokémon do appear shiny in the open world. The sparkle visual and sound effect on spawn are back. There's also a light glittering visual, and a sparkle icon when locked on targetting.

Standing on a roof the Pokémon trainer sees a pink shiny Mareep, asleep.

So, now that Pokémon Legends Z-A reviews are up, I'll say I've got an early copy and have put aprox 10 hours in so far.

Genuinely really enjoying it - The new combat system is robust and, while set in a single city, the HUGE density of NPC side quest content has helped it to feel really alive.

Thanks for sharing these impressions. The chance it'd run like Sc/Vi was putting me off (which seemed confirmed when they weren't letting anyone cover it) but this seems totally within expectations.

I was super comfortable with how Arceus ran and looked, and this looks a bit more like that.
