I love that series, even when it becomes relentlessly bleak and brutal in the later stages. It reminds me of Stephen Baxter, in that it's not afraid to be technical and to make the reader work instead of oversimplifying tough concepts. The Sophon is one of the most terrifying ideas I've come across.

Trying not to leave any indie bookshop empty handed on principle. This is today's exit strategy - Extremophile by Ian Green. Seems to be cyberpunk with the punk multiple-underlined hard in red marker. Right up my street :)

Oz has a track record for this. The list of damaging invasive species introduced is almost funny. Rabbits and cane toads were devastating, but camels and water buffalos too... 'help, we're being swamped by dromedaries!'

Not sure, but I know Scotland has had feral mink on a couple of islands for years. This one was a couple of raids by the ALF in Hampshire, but they did do that style of roundup, yeah.

Fur farms shouldn't exist, but I did wonder if the activists knew what they were unleashing.

In a small area that's never had them natively too. I think around 2500 were recaptured (which I'm not happy about) but I heard that a fair proportion of those found their own way back. Do mustelids have a homing instinct? I'd like to think they put aside their differences and formed a gang :)
