In complete seriousness, what does the government think this will do in terms of suppressing pro Palestinian sentiment long term? In fact it seems like it would only further concretize the tenacity of those who feel so strongly.

A British couple who are members of a grassroots pro-Palestine organisation which had its bank account frozen have had their joint personal account closed without explanation.

John Nicholson, 70, and Norma Turner, 76, barrister and nurse, received no explanation. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

DOE's public statements about this say that all the ad hoc committees, including HEPAP, will be replaced by a single committee. As an STS researcher, I am compelled to point out that this overlaps with the Nazi playbook for taking over German physics. My slides about how they did that:🧪⚛️🔭

Korol is a US citizen. Her family hasn’t heard from her since she was taken, public charges haven’t been released—what crime did she even commit? 2nd-Degree Woodwinding?—and there has been no explanation for her “renditioning” across state lines.

We’ve moved into a new phase of Trump lawlessness.

A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

For the behavior to be understood as an outlier, anyway. We’ve learned it takes a lot less time to reveal the widespread desire to engage in a shamed behavior than to force the behavior out of the mainstream in the first place

“Go to a No Kings rally. What do you see? You see moms and grandmas and kids and dogs and funny signs and dancing and happy displays of opposition to the regime that are foundationally nonviolent. And on the other end, you’ve got a regime that’s led by a guy who cheered the January 6th insurrection”

Save 30% on #NewBook "Exorbitance" by Deborah A. Thomas, which calls for new approaches to political sovereignty grounded in the embodied forms of autonomy and relation created in daily life rather than the state. #Anthropology

Cover of Exorbitance: A Speculative Ethnography of Inheritance by Deborah A. Thomas. The collage-style artwork features layered images of a central figure, a Black woman in a historical headwrap and blouse, and pants made of newspaper clippings. Her hands lay atop the surface of what might be a drum, that has been superimposed with a black and white photograph. Behind her is a masculine silhouette in a solid black color, though flecked with stars. At the bottom, rows of small, identical images of women in red and blue skirts appear in procession.

Trump just bombed six more people in the Caribbean, for a total of 27 civilians who have been killed so far by the US military. It’s illegal for the military to target civilians who do not pose an immediate threat. This is murder.

Relevant questions may include but are not limited to: how does religion shape cultural and political conflicts? How does religion relate not only to political participation but to the shaping of collectives? How do different understandings of the sacred inform the development of, and dispute over, morality?

If you didn’t know, Alaska has been hit by a massive storm, causing severe flooding. Many Indigenous villages have been completely wiped out, with some houses floating away with PEOPLE INSIDE THEM. Please keep posting to spread the info. They need help.

These are mostly indigenous communities in Alaska that have been slammed by the storm.

The local manager of a small airline fleet says he is the only one doing evacuations right now!

Defund FEMA and people are abandoned. Defund public media and no-one knows.

FYI, today is Indigenous Peoples Day.
