Important to note that "skinhead" by itself should not necessarily imply Nazi, and there's significant groups within the greater skinhead subculture that strongly oppose racial prejudice and recognize the original Jamaican influence on the formation of early skinhead culture

I grew up across the street from a sleazy basement VHS rental

it was dimly lit, the guy smoked at all times and didn't care whether it was appropriate for you to rent Cube at age 7 - you bring the money you get the tape

my entire taste in cinema was formed in that rental and I am forever grateful

Fascism purges and destroys in the name of purity; liberalism arrives as the hero to “restore order” - solidifying and facilitating power back to capital and paving the way for the techno-oligarch future. Together they maintain the same architecture of control - the very same hierarchy of whose lives are livable, whose deaths are acceptable, and whose futures are imaginable.
The system was never built to serve us. It was built to preserve itself. So when I say I’ve lost faith in it, this is what I mean. No future can bloom inside its walls - only an endless, decaying present. The only path forward is to imagine beyond them, to see past the horizon of the flag, past the language of empire, past the myth of order itself.
They are bound—both in their minds and in the lines they draw on maps. By their borders. We are not. We live on a horizon they cannot even imagine.
Ezra Klein ends his op-ed with the line, “we are all safe or none of us are.” But trans women murdered in silence have never been safe. Immigrants who are snatched off the streets in the name of “order” have never been safe. Palestinians erased in the name of “peace” have never been safe. Safety for whom? The truth is not “we are all safe or none of us are.”
The truth is: we are all liberated, or none of us are.

nah not really, I'm not particularly into boomer shooters (neither the original old school ones nor the modern revival types)

my ideal shooter games are Half-Life 2 and Titanfall 2 - light on the shooting, heavy on platforming and exploration, and a guided "cinematic" setpiece level progression

I've been looking at ARC Raiders and hearing some people calling it "the most casual extraction shooter" or "the working person's extraction shooter" and that it apparently respects your time and is all very condensed and bite-sized compared to monsters like Tarkov

The PS2 truly is the best console ever because it is constantly becoming more powerful. Each time we say something "looks like a PS2 game" we're talking about a game of a higher fidelity than the last. What the PS2 is capable of in 2025 is so far beyond what it was capable of in 2003. That's amazing
