I do computer stuff to keep scientists sciencing. Sometimes I take photos and video of stuff. Occasionally I think about stuff, mostly while cycling. Sometimes I remember to post stuff when I get home.

"But also it doesn't matter, as long as it's open source." yeah heard a lot of that about RHEL and CentOS/derivatives too…

it was painful but ultimately Rocky and Alma seem to be doing fine, so I guess it worked out.
but do you really trust Canonical to be any better? Serious question, I'm not trying to start a distro war. Ubuntu is not my choice but it's… fine.
Oh man I could use a "road clearer," any idea what that picture represents though? kinda looks like a whistle

He's right of course, you will see all of those. You'd think the Speaker of the House of Representatives would understand, embrace even, people with diverse viewpoints coming together while not being in complete agreement on everything…

What do we know about the psychology of hit-and-runs? Drivers panic? Didn't know that they hit someone (or so claim)? Other factors: drivers uninsured, unlicensed, or have outstanding warrants?

Anyone recommend good studies or other reading on this?
This is just sickening. When even old(er, don't at me) ladies and kids† are getting hit by cars (or in this case, a truck with a trailer according to the 911 call) that flee the scene, what faith I had in society evaporates.

UPDATE: This incident was a hit-and-run. Victim is a 70-year-old female who is injured. She was transported to Eskenazi by medics.

but think of the Uber drivers!
Actually I wonder, what's the breakdown for methods convention/event-goers use to get from the airport to downtown? What fraction drives vs flies?
Presumably someone has done that study, Indy Sports Corp maybe…
Isn't it obvious? "the Spanish court received so many complaints of administrative misconduct that Spain sent Adm. Don Francisco de Bobadilla to investigate, leading to Columbus’s arrest and imprisonment in San Domingo on the island of Hispaniola"

It won't be cheap but they'll have it in stock and will ship it out fast, whatever it is.
meanwhile, how it's going:
The Duff Beer blimp from the Simpsons on fire and falling, with "WE NEED YOUR HELP" written on the side and Duffman screaming in the cupola.
Indeed Plato, the OG conservative Republican, described how "he should teach his soul, by long habit, never to dream of acting independently, and to become utterly incapable of it," and so it is for people like Duffy, to the point they cannot even conceive of independent thought or action by anyone.
i'm sure duffy is just lying here but also i'll say again that they hard time conceptualizing relations between people that aren't strictly hierarchical.

"Dr. Ashmead, which himself sounds like a Clive Barker character — some Faustian doctor and academic trying to logic his way into the pleasures and pains of Hell."

This is delicious, and I can just imagine how Barker would concoct this character, with a plot stretching back to the Garden of Eden…
Call me Ashmead. Whenever I find my food grim in the mouth; whenever it is a crisp, cool October in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before every farmstand and following too close behind every tractor I meet—then, I account it high time to read Chuck Wendig apple reviews.

Blanton Woods in Danville was a wonderful offroad excursion (and shortcut). One of the great things about riding a gravel bike with 700c x 38mm all-road tires is that it can readily handle almost anything (sure, slowly at times).
Return trip at ludicrous speed and potato quality
Yesterday I completed a 100-km ride along the full length of the B&O rail trail from Indianapolis to the back roads of Hendricks County, including an offroad section through Blanton Woods.

I've uploaded a highlights video, which includes the full return trip at 25x speed youtu.be/rGhzTvZU5L0

That bridge is really cool. Reminds me of the one on the Dust Bowl 100 route near Fillmore (39.695941, -86.784318).

Nice ride! I did something quite similar today, but just tooled around the backroads of Hendricks County, heading down to Blanton Woods in Danville and back. Beautiful day!

fun fact: formal "hello" in Finnish is "hei," so to an English speaker it sounds like everyone is super chill all the time

(the informal greeting is "moi")
