Canada very much has prayer in state-funded religious schools, just as many, many democracies around the world do.

Whoever made this is either an American pretending to be Canadian, which is bad, or actually a Canadian, which is just sad and embarrassing.

Hahaha. Well, anyway, I was agreeing with you. There's no such thing as separation of church and state or "no religion in schools" in Canada; that's an American thing and I was making fun of the person who made the meme who, apparently, isn't Canadian.

Brian Harris was working from home on Indigenous Peoples' Day and went to the Santa Fe Plaza after seeing on social media some type of protest was taking place. When he arrived, he was confronted with what he described as "an angry mob."

"It was disheartening, to say the least," Harris said.

He arrived a few minutes after the obelisk had already been toppled and said he stayed for about 45 minutes, during which he said there was a sense of lawlessness he hadn't previously encountered in Santa Fe.

Harris, who moved to Santa Fe in 1999, said he is "very much a liberal" and believes in free and fair protest, but what he saw that day was something different.

"There was an undertone of violence," he said, adding he felt like many people present were inordinately happy they had succeeded in destroying the monument.

I think the main barrier to honest, direct coverage from the mainstream media in Trump 1.0 was professional norms/reflexive both sides-ism. In 2.0, that's still a factor, but a bigger barrier may be ownership. Reporters/editors know that many media owners are wary of too much anti-Trump coverage.

It's a mistranslation, to boot.

It's best avoided altogether. "Circular argument" and "raises the question" avoid all ambiguity and also don't use a technical, rhetorical term that's a bad translation from the Latin that, really, no one should expect other people to know.

He's stupid twice-over. 🤷‍♀️

But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed.

After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

Basically RFK Jr is blowing a dog whistle in the key of anti-semitism. (Autism = bad, in his eschatology: also circumcision = Jewish cultural practice = bad. It's much more obvious outside the US eg. here in Europe, where circumcision is mainly practiced by muslims and jews, or for phimosis.)

Doing that changed me, even though I already knew stuff intellectually. The biggest thing was that a majority of women close to me disclosed being survivors. Family, friends, acquaintances sometimes. I believe women. (And men!)

Anyway, certain people are, um, weird about Allen. It's a "type".

In the early 90s, I did volunteer rape crisis work and also, not coincidentally, my then-spouse was a survivor. Everything about that story makes my skin crawl, not the least the people like this guy who feel the need to defend Allen.
