the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.
Gee, The Argument, thanks so much for reaching out to people who insist New Yorkers are not "real Americans," so we know whether they like our mayoral candidates. That's so much more important to us than the affordable housing crisis or community mental health.
The post below is incredibly dishonest. You don't need a graduate degree in statistics or survey analysis to see that the most common response to Mamdani is a lack of familiarity, *not* disfavor. In fact, he is viewed less unfavorably than Newsom, AOC, Harris or Schumer.

Everyone should read this piece by a former Arab fact checker at @newyorker.com. On genocide & the language the legacy media still can’t—or won’t—use to describe war crimes & famine in Gaza.

Surely there are more than two Democratic politicians in Maine, most of them without Nazi tattoos and ugly Reddit histories?
A good summary thread. Here’s the thing: if he’s nominated, Susan Collins is going to say she’s running against a Nazi tattoo guy. And then she’s going to win.

It couldn’t be easier for her, because any swing voter, people who are used to voting for her, wants to think of themselves as not Nazi.
1. Graham Platner is an oyster farmer and Marine Corps veteran who’s running for the United States Senate in Maine. He’s trying to knock off Susan Collins. He’s presented himself as a common-man candidate who stands against oligarchy, genocide and the oppression of the little guy.

There are Americans everywhere who have to get approval from a Landmark Preservation board before they can paint houses they legally own a slightly different shade of yellow. They must be losing their minds this week.
There is no difference between Trump destroying the East Wing and using a wrecking ball on the Washington Monument or Smithsonian. Just because he (temporarily) lives there doesn't give him the right to demolish the White House without Congressional approval.

Self-pub authors are perennially mad at indie bookshops for not stocking their books or only ordering from Ingram. They fail to grasp that if the books are not purchased from Ingram, the store doesn't make enough to make even unboxing the book worth its time. The self-pub authors (1/5)
If you have time/inclination and aren’t completely demoralized by your Threads experience, I’d love to have it explained here too sometime. Can’t speak for all of Bsky but I for one will not respond with a torch and pitchfork.

Just read the article and saw the photos and all I have to say is that there has to be a reckoning for this.
“.. They are the asylum seekers, the rule followers. They go into the federal building holding papers .. hoping for a measure of due process. Some leave the courthouse with a hearing date set months or years from now. Others disappear into ICE’s prison system.”

Happy Amazon Prime Day! Amazon collects mountains of data about how you use the service, but there is a setting you can change to make it harder for the company to use that data to sell you more things. #OptOutOctober www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

*not a joke, this ‘automation at all costs’ focus is removing humans from the loop and creates an environment where a small problem can quickly cascade into a worldwide outage
