The Telegraph is now having to publish so many corrections to articles where it attempts to find *any angle whatsoever* to attack net-zero polices that it makes sense to start tracking them here.

These are the ones published since Labour won the election.

"We are happy to correct the record."

The house we're moving to has the same make of heatpump, and got 4/5 for energy efficiency, so I presume the surveyor there went to the extra effort of entering the make and model? I don't know what 5/5 would be though - the same heat pump but with underfloor heating?
keithalexander.bsky.social
Seriously? How many homes being readied for sale have exposed access to the solum? How many surveyors arrive prepared to look into a solum? What if you have an airtight membrane over the insulation?
keithalexander.bsky.social
I presume it would be as it seems to be the most common kind of heat pump being installed these days - is this the right database?

I think energy efficiency is really "running costs", and they must still assume a low enough SCOP for heat pumps to be more costly to run.

I will definitely get back to the surveyor.

It's also annoying that EPCs always recommend zoned heating controls, even though in many cases they would be inappropriate and reduce the efficiency of the system.

Why NOT to ZONE your heating!!.. (SHOCKING RESULTS!!)

Also annoying that the surveyor never even asked if the floors were insulated, just assumed that they weren't.

Even though electricity is ~4.3x more expensive than gas, my heat pump produces heat more cheaply than the most efficient gas boiler. It's frustrating that the EPC, which is supposed to direct home owners and buyers to energy and environmentally efficiency choices, doesn't recognise this.
keithalexander.bsky.social
I was told that EPCs had changed their methodology with regard to heat pumps, but while they recognise the environmental benefit, they're still giving a 450% efficient central heating system 3/5 for energy efficiency. 🤦‍♂️

Greenpeace UK says high fees for offshore wind developers to lease the seabed is an abuse of monopoly power by Crown Estate

High fees push up the price of offshore wind & will act as a tax on energy bills, to fund the monarchy & lower taxes

It's time it stopped

On a down note, Farage may adapt to work his populist poison on whatever the issue of the day is.

One thing that gives me a bit of hope with regard to Reform’s prospects is that concern about immigration is not constantly high, and chances are that something else will displace it by the next election. yougov.co.uk/topics/socie...

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

What do China's new climate pledges show us about the future? The putative electrostate elected to punt -- it isn't ready to commit to a non-coal future. Xi's government is unambitious, and seems to be falling into the very middle income trap that it says it fears.

China Is Deciding Not to Decide on a New Green Future
The country’s underwhelming new climate pledge is more than just bad news for the world — it reveals a serious governing mistake.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

They always say "China likes to underpromise and overdeliver", don't they?
But yes, if it amounts to "I'll probably deliver less than I can, but I'll only commit to delivering way less than I can", it's not so impressive.

They can't shrink the civil service + reduce the deficit + cut taxes by billions + quadruple deportations to 150k/year (& shrink the legal population by 500k+ by going to net zero migration)

The Conservatives have pledged they will increase the number of deportations to 150k/year

- while significantly reducing the size of the civil service
- without increasing government spending and taxation.
- and opposing mandatory identification.

355 MEPs voted today to ban the use of meat denominations like burger & sausage for plant-based products.

This is a manufactured issue. Consumers are not confused.

If there was ever clearer evidence of political decision-making being heavily influenced by the animal agriculture lobby. This is it.

I thought conservatives were supposed to believe in the wisdom of markets and that people should be free to make decisions about their own lives without government interfering?

The government’s own data rebuts Trump Admin claims that wind and solar are driving up electricity prices, Politico reports share.google/RTIXPPQMXrTH...
“[T]he data say pretty much the opposite” of Trump & Secretary Wright’s claims.
Among the 22 states that drew higher-than-average shares of their power from wind and solar, 17 had below-average electricity prices in June, according to EIA data.
