Don’t really need recs, just taking a break from Sci fi right now to read other things. I am a varied reader, I like to read a lot of things. I have too many books checked out right now.

I can’t do most audiobooks because I do ping off most narrators and I fear it will get worse as they push AI for that.

The only argument is that they do use different parts of the brain than the parts that are activated by reading text, but in terms of like discussing a text it does not matter what form you read the book.

And to expand, it is good that YA exists, but I am anti-movie rating style systems for books and it is good to read books outside of just what was designed to be relatable to you which is also important for teenagers and young people.

I read IT at age 12, which is probably the best time to read Stephen King (particularly the first half of his career) and had the time of my life.

It sort of sucks that most people’s introduction to Shakespeare is through reading the plays, not seeing them performed or a movie adaptation (that still uses the original language)

I think they are both trying to do different things. Also I think there are probably modern historical fiction novels about the French Revolution that a lot of people would enjoy more than either of them.

Even with “popcorn reads” you still have to use your imagination and process text to get the story.

This not to say that movies/television can’t move people intellectual or you have to be passive, but the bar for the amount of work your brain has to do to read or listen to a book is more than viewing…

Les Miserables is not about the French Revolution, it takes place a good time after and the student rebellion was actually just a small part of it….
