books should have an anti-acknowledgements section where the author talks shit about all the people who fucked them over while they were trying to write the thing. not bc I personally want to write one but bc I love gossip

A few months ago on my high street, one of those guys was evangelizing /very/ loudly, maybe a foot away from a homeless woman who was visibly shaking and asking him to move back; he wouldn't. Not a great advertisement for what he's preaching.

Watching a renovating show on which someone's interpreted "You can do x once a qualified tradesperson's on site" as that person having pulled into the car park. Nooo.

I could HEAR the weariness in that two word post.

This is a huge moment in linear broadcast TV. When I began my TV career in 2005, even history documentaries were expected to get 2 million viewers

Last month, something unusual happened in TV - none of the main channels got a million viewers at 9pm. The bigger problem was it happened a 2nd & 3rd time soon after.

Another unwelcome landmark for linear TV & our shrinking shared TV experience.

Does it matter?

This is the first time in 15 years that I'm running Ada Lovelace Day without also putting on a big event in London, and I have to admit, it feels kinda weird.

If you have a minute, please share a story of your favourite woman in STEM with the hashtag #ALD25.
