Rumors of a Ul'Dah Syndicate member visiting seemed too good to be true, but when a wagon carrying a very well dressed Lalafell rolled in, well, Kara figured he could pocket at least one of his riches and be set for life. He did sneak a gem from one of the cargo boxes and was leaving when a long piece of iron entered his view.

"Your next step will be your last!" A scratched voice from behind him, must be the Miqote that's with the Lalafell.

"You know boy." A rather proud voice followed, the Lalafell surely. "I actually started my career as a thief, a rather good one at that too. So I know a sloppy job when I see it. Can't blame you though, I am quite the catch. However I must warn you that most lucrative jobs have risks that just aren't worth it."

The Viera is puzzled as to why he's still standing.

"...Do you lecture every criminal before you send them to jail...or gut them?"

A boisterous laughter filled the alleyway as if something funny was said.
"Now what would that accomplish?! I know folks like you cling to life like a stuffed mammet so sending you away would be a waste of time for everyone involved. And to strike you down here? Tsk. tsk. That will not do, tell you what, I see a little bit of me in you."

"Emphasis on the little." Kara mouthed.

"So I will offer you something that I did not have when I started out, a helping hand. Although I have to wonder why you need it when you had something so valuable to begin with."

Had? Kara checked his pockets, something was missing!

"Minerals like this are impossible to come by in this stretch of the land, you could make a pretty penny for this and live a life...close to mine. Let's temper expectations."

"Give it back!"

"Watch your tone mister!" The blade inched a little closer.

"Ah, I knew it was sentimental. Tell you what boy, how about a fair trade? I'm looking for something the miners around Horizon don't bring to the shops, if you can get me that you'll have your rock back."

"...B-but, I'm not a miner."…

A faraway boat that never seemed liked it would ever dock on land eventually made a stop to Vesper Bay. Among the shipping crates that departed was also a red headed lad in his teens.

Over the years he lived in the bay, taking odd jobs like cleaning up after chocobos and helping load up boats that come and go, he didn't make much from his pay but profited from tips, whether they were given or taken.

Every night he would look over the horizon of the sea and fail to sleep, having the same dream from before his boat ride over and over again.
