Exactly right. It's like calling quite literally anything political a "purity test." Like, yeah? That's the point. That's the entire point of politics, politics is one purity test after another. It's only a term used cynically by enemies to derail the conversation. Don't fall for it.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

Not true. It's very case by case. A lot of people are still insisting on calling it LLMs.

Correct people if they call it AI. The branding has been semi-effective but correcting them is exactly the in you need to explain what it is.

Enshittification. Ipso facto. The only place that hasn't happened are the galleries, because they're run in a fundamentally different way. Hell, even FA is actually improving its features pretty rapidly now. And at least there I DON'T have to worry about AI!

It's a bit weird to me how some people feel entitled to stay and "try to fix it" because Bluesky wouldn't have been the same without them.

Guess what, that still holds true. Bluesky won't be the same without us. The difference is I am not attached, and willing to watch it fail.

I think I'm getting sick of Bsky. Like enough of it to delete. It's not burnout, it's just. I don't think things are going to get better, even if we do try. These people are fucking idiots, and worse, they're not even in good faith. So how's it any better than Xirdsite?

The short answer is twofold. a) They almost have a monopoly, or they did for many years before Stripe came along. b) They've always been badly run, even when Elon was ousted.

The bad old days were *BAD*. Worse than they are now. It's how I learned all my tricks!

On the contrary, it's about public knowledge. Anything they can search for with associations, they will. They just want to cover their asses and they will err on the side of caution to do it, every time. Any whiff of a TOS violation they will lock someone's account.

Please do not allow the entire Internet to know who you are.
That should really be client privilege only. Quid pro quo. You know their name, they know yours. No one else needs to.

PayPal have been known to search for users based on their addresses and ding them for content, even if the notes themselves are vague. I suspect something similar may have happened here.

Another layer of safety which I've used the entire time I've had PayPal is have a dedicated email address for it.

It's used for PayPal only. No promotions, no correspondence, not even spam, no where is it public, absolutely no use for it other than sending and receiving money.

Right. I've never personally been dinged for notes, even having noted "sketch" in just about every invoice I've written.

I suppose the key word is "commission" to avoid.
