He knows that some portion of it is her trying to make up for the damage she caused in her past, but when she refused healing & healed everyone else first after the battle, and then went to assist people in the area, he had to physically stop her & make her rest. (If he hadn’t, someone would have)

Astarion thought it was something that Ravahana would stop doing once they defeated the Netherbrain, but to his great irritation, her insistence on taking care of other people before worrying about herself carried over into their lives afterward.
It makes him want to shake her or kiss her, or both.

"It was never shivers of anticipation when I bit you, you're ticklish!" Astarion pounces, knocking Aldiirn back and assaulting him with a barrage of tickles.

"Nooooo I'm nn-nn-not!" Aldiirn very obviously lies as he fails to protect his flanks from Astarion's treacherous fingers.

"Your snorts and squeals say otherwise, dumpling," Astarion can't help but grin pointedly.

"Nn-nuhh-uh!" Aldiirn barely breathes with the effort of suppressing his laughter.

"This doesn't stop until you admit it, one word is all--"

Toot! The little fart doesn't teleport Aldiirn away, but still gives Aldiirn an out as Astarion stops to laugh at the absurdity.

"Ahahaha," Astarion catches his breath, "I'll take that as a surrender!"

Gods, Aldiirn is beautiful, breathless and all that silken hair tousled out around him, even with that dopey grin.

"You're having fun," Aldiirn teases.

"I could hardly let my dinner marinate in those dreadful feelings, could I?" It was fun.

Aldiirn gets himself off the table and back on shaky legs, bracing himself with an arm behind Astarion. "I have some kiwi for this feeding if that sounds good to you," he half giggles.

"Sounds sumptuous," Astarion boops Aldiirn's nose. He rather does like that the horrible boostshroom incident lead to Aldiirn finding ways to sweeten his blood in the evenings.

"I really need to say my prayers first," Aldiirn grabs his flute and crucible, dagger rattling inside, on the way out, "I'll find a place that won't bother you."

"Happy tooting, see you soon," Astarion waves him off.

Astarion doesn't know which of the divine Aldiirn worships, nor does he care to. Perhaps he'd snoop to listen to him perform afterwards, it hasn't felt as heart wrenching since--

Wait.

Something's missing.

Hells.

"Just when I think I'm starting to know that man, he plays me for a dirty dagger," Astarion mutters to himself.

Aldiirn perks up. "Cally says every critter that has ears loves a scritch behind them, people included. It'll have you purring, nothing sexual about it."

"Ears, really?" There it is. "Are your baby points so jealous you can't get enough?" Astarion asks, gesturing to his long pointy ears.

Aldiirn leans in, making that adorable wants-something smile again. "Behind the ears," emphasis on behind, "Let me show you!" Aldiirn outstretches his hands, ready to cup either side of Astarion's head.

Astarion chews over the decision. Earplay seemed to be as adventurous as Aldiirn got whenever they snuck away for a bit of whatever-counts-as-fun. He would be gentle, delicate, more preoccupied with the curls of his hair sometimes. Astarion has nothing to lose and a few points to gain here, yet...

"No." Astarion gives his answer.

"No," Aldiirn repeats blankly, deflating.

"I want to try on you first."

"Oh, it doesn't work on me," Aldiirn is suddenly coy, parting his thick hair to show the venom scar warping the side of his face down his neck. "Scar tissue."

Astarion is undeterred. "I seem to recall the side I bite each night is free of scarring." He leans in and reaches with a hand.

Aldiirn leans away with a little hesitant keening sound. "You need both sides scritched for the full effect..."

"You must still feel something," Astarion says while grazing Aldiirn's neck and eliciting a choked chuckle.

Astarion's eyes gleam like a cat about to pounce a mouse. "Oho, what do we have here?"

Letting his fingers dance down Aldiirn's soft, squirming sides, Astarion purrs, "You've been caught in a trap of your own making, or perhaps, a lie--"

Sorry Gale, your freak just doesn't match Aldiirn's, who failed on Insight and is now fairly convinced he stumbled on a topsider taboo. #art

This certainly isn't what Astarion expects. Curious, he prods, "You and Gale always look like peas in a pod together. Wouldn't you want to have a long hard magic lesson with him?

"Shadows, no!" Aldiirn blurts out. "I thought we were getting along fine! Maybe we could be mates sometime. Friend mates," he makes clear, though the Under-accent coming through says it well enough. "Then I find out he already fancies us more."

"What am I to do now?" Aldiirn turns to Astarion in utter bewilderment and distress. "Gale is a client with a pending review. If I make him cross all those points will be bound for the abyss! And I can't dump him when his last ex is telling him to explode himself!"

Wouldn't that be wonderful, Astarion thinks to himself and tries not to smile too much. Exploding Gale aside, this is almost too good, but he has to be sure. "You can't have been completely unaware of Gale's yearning all this time. Surely there's a mote of affection, a feeling from you he's clung to?"

"Maybe," Aldiirn hums evasively, "When we had the tieflings at camp."

Astarion leans in. It's so amusing to watch Aldiirn when he's without his courier-perfect persona.

"Gale and I were talking about his tressym..." Aldiirn stammers out each word quieter than the last, "and I made a joke about belly rubs."

"Belly rubs!?" Astarion brings a hand to his face in faux shock. "I knew drow were depraved but that far!? And to add the cat to it!"

"What!?" Aldiirn squeaks, "I didn't mean-- it's not like--"

"Aldiirn, you deviant, perverted man!" Astarion leans in, thoroughly enjoying teasing Aldiirn, "had I known when we had our first romp in the woods--"

"It's not about sex!" Aldiirn bursts out, trembling not just with the drink but a deep discomfort. "Everyone is so obsessed and has to make everything about sex and it's so frustrating!"

"Not that sex with you is bad or anything," he catches himself and puts on a semblance of his usual smile.

As if we've had sex, Astarion keeps to himself.

"But... can't a belly rub be just a belly rub?"

There's an earnestness to Aldiirn's words Astarion wants to believe. Usually the drunks at the taverns and flophouses would be all over him by now, and yet here...

"Sussun!" Aldiirn curses under his breath, having fallen up the top step to the dilapidated cabin.

"Well hello~," Astarion hastily hides his spite, "To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence dropping in?"

"Astarion!" Aldiirn jolts up, sending his little crucible rolling. "Didn't know you were out here! I was just looking for a place to say my prayers, not to close to camp, not so dark the shamblers will get me, you know," he rambles a little too quickly, eyes just a little too wide, and a delightful flush across his cheeks.

Astarion stops the crucible with his foot and gives it a good tap with his last remaining dagger. "You seem to be without any offerings," he says, surmising that Aldiirn must have had one too many drinks back at camp.

Aldiirn shrugs, "oops." Then he puts on that cute little smile with the big eyes that he does when he wants something. "That dagger's from one of the zombies we did in, yeah?"

"Yes, and don't think of asking to melt it to slag. I'm using it." Astarion safely stows the dagger in his back pocket.

Aldiirn toddles over to the closest seating, a wooden table that had seen better days, like everything else in the shadow-cursed lands. Even sitting, he sways and leans.

Astarion joins him on the old table. Maybe this could be something to his favour. "It's so very unlike you to be unprepared. What happened to put you in such a tizzy?"

Aldiirn opens his mouth to speak, then closes it, evidently worrying about who might overhear as he leans around the corner to peer back at the cabin's door.

He leans back in, close to Astarion. "Did you know Gale is really horny?" He finally says in a shaky whisper.

"Is he?" Astarion feels what little life he had left in him slip away. It had to come back to Gale!

"He likes my musk," Aldiirn rambles again, gesticulating animatedly, "considers the sight of me covered in blight guts irresistible, and no matter how many times I tried to steer the conversation away from Art of the Night he kept bringing up more uses for Mage Hand."

"There was an overcommon word I don't want to know the meaning of," Aldiirn ends like he escaped from the clutches of an incomprehensible aberration.

Baldur's Gate 3 fancomic. Gale and Aldiirn. Just look at those sops, all giddy and smiles after the battle. It made Astarion want to puke.

THUNK! Astarion throws a dagger into a used potion bottle, wishing it was Gale's back instead.

Of course those two would get closer. They had all the things in common. The cooking. Magic theory. Endless discussions about mushrooms.

THUNK! Astarion's hopes of staying in Aldiirn's good graces shatter like his next target, an urn. Aldiirn would certainly still call on him for lockpicking and nosing around, maybe that would be enough to earn his dinner, but what about the little gifts, the sneaking away to loot, the little snort Aldiirn makes when he laughs--

THUNK! It's insufferable to think Astarion's about to lose it all to that lumbering yapping fool of a--

Thalra doesn’t remember her birth parents, but she was told that she was found as a toddler with the bodies of her parents. It was assumed that they had made enemies of a more powerful House.
She spent some time in the house of a lower born family until her budding wild magic caught the

Irann was the first child for her parents, and not only was she born unexpectedly early, the birth was hard on her mother. She labored for almost a day and a half, part of it was because Irann was almost born breech.
Regardless, she was a healthy baby and a happy one at that.

Irann never looks anyone that she was an orphan until this night in the Underdark. She had told everyone that she was going to scout the path ahead a little, but had been distant all day.
When she didn’t return within an hour, Astarion grew concerned enough to look for her. He found her 1/2
