On the centenary of Thatcher's birth, there have been predictable calls for a memorial to her memory. But Britain's 2300 food banks serve that purpose already.

The NLNDP says it's the first party in provincial history to achieve gender parity among candidates. It's also believed Laurabel Mba is NL's first-ever Black provincial candidate, and Shazia Razi is the first-ever hijab-wearing Muslim candidate #nlpoli

Despite voting in the last two provincial elections from the same address, I am somehow not on the voter list for this election and will have to register again tomorrow. Does anyone know why this happens?

I would add that housing is definitely an issue for low-waged workers. The NDP commitment to a massive expansion of non-market housing (rent based on income) addresses a major stressor on low-waged paycheques.
justmarknichols.bsky.social
In fact, since Jim Dinn has repeatedly reached out to me to get a sense of their struggles and perspective, I felt that much of that consultation was reflected in the NDP platform.
justmarknichols.bsky.social
The headline is a bit deceiving here. Not all three parties are ‘sidelining’ workers’ issues. As someone who has been advocating for non-unionized low-waged workers over the past five years, the NDP platform stands out as one that would address many of their struggles.

“The NDP has the most detailed set of commitments for workers, which includes…enforceable labour standards for gig and precarious workers…card check certification…anti-scab legislation, and increasing the minimum wage to $22 an hour.“

They also commit to 10 paid sick days for all workers.

As we come up to the end of this election, going forward to want to remind people that if you want to see more of a presence of a small party like the NDP in your area, that presence could be you. We depend on volunteers, we don’t have companies donating so we can hire staff to put up signs

I needed to take 3 trips to city hall this year in order to vote - I was not on the voters list despite living in the same house for 18 years. The average person would not take these extra steps. Voter turnout is partially a function of electoral management. Let us assess our processes, St John's.

To be crystal clear: it's not about what the scientists "told CBC News", not just informed opinion. The science itself is very clear. You can question perhaps the degree of NL contribution to climate change, but it's fact that the oil from here is a contributor. Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

There's a reason they hid their platforms until the last possible minute.

Please everyone buy my latest book which is all about this problem and how we can fix it. It has, of course, been ignored by the mainstream press.

According to the flotilla tracker & Al Jazeera, the Conscience (along with other flotilla ships) has been intercepted.

Time to get on the phones and call our MPs to demand Canada ensure the safe return of the Canadians on board including NL activists Devoney Ellis, Nikita Stapleton, & Sadie Mees.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Does anyone actually expect anything radical in the platforms of
the two establishment parties? They may include a few coppers for us commoners struggling to make ends meet but rest assured they will not abandon the donor class they have served faithfully for so long. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Reading Friday’s Telegram (October 3rd) story on the NLNDP in this election saying that they didn’t yet have 40 candidates but hoped to do so by the Sep 23rd nomination deadline. The article is thin gruel to begin with but being 10 days out of date in a 30 day election period is unacceptable.

My latest -- Russia is being accused of backing Serbian nationals for spreading hatred in Germany and French. And some Canadians are thinking aloud that the same could be happening here. But do Canadian racists need Russia's support? I argue that they do not.
Is Canadian hatred actually Russia's fault?
No, of course not, but please still read on.
