Generic Gen-X Nerd. I do post here, but it's very much a subset of my posts to Mastodon, as I have zero confidence in VC-backed corporate social media. Various links at https://jsr.com mastodon: [email protected]

Is it churlish to point out that whatever broke in your work/life flow today, due to Amazon breaking us-east-1, is also a solid subset of what the US government could take from you (or simply monitor for badthink) due to (just as an example) that government being run by nazis?
My first car was a late 60’s Mini, and every so often I get nostalgic enough to look at buying another one. But. I walked past one parked on our street recently and … damn, they are small. I don’t think I could fit in a classic mini any more. In fact, it’s possible that I could wear one as a hat.
I’ve been feeling quite a lot less crap recently, and so over the last couple of days I’ve had the spoons to do a bunch of work on various computers around the house, and I don’t know if they are _fixed_ but they are definitely _different_.
I can't find my multimeter, despite invoking the ancient magics to locate it, by which I mean wandering around the house muttering "Multimeter, multimeter, multimeter..."
Friendship ended with cast iron pan. Stainless steel pan is my best friend now.
They literally would have been better off saving those files to the local disk connected to their workstation. At least then one fire wouldn’t have taken it all out.
Can confirm, yes.
I have received more than one unpleasant medical diagnosis this week, and I do not like it.

The entire week @jsr.com and the kid were away I was worried that Naboo was being distant and withdrawn bc he never joined me in bed and didn’t want to hang out much, but since they got home last night he has been glued to JSR like a surgically attached koala. Guess we know who’s the favourite 😳
The feeling of getting home to your own bed after some time away is a very positive feeling. AAA+++ GOOD FEELING WOULD FEEL AGAIN
The South Canterbury town Geraldine (pop 3000) doesn’t have much nightlife. We did see a yellow (and later red) traffic bar for the main road on the maps app during the day. We drove through it and the affected road segment contained, to a first order approximation by my Auckland eyes, zero cars.
I feel like going to a 70s-style roller skating rink where they play 80s and 90s goth and industrial music while I skate around a circle for a few hours would fix me.
I feel like constructing additional pylons would fix me.
I just watched the pilot for Knights Of Guinivere from Glitch Productions. Immediate thoughts:

(1) it is AMAZING. I am all in, just based on this pilot.

(2) Dana Terrace did NOT I repeat DID NOT have a fun time dealing with Disney when making The Owl House.
My high school sported as uniform items both Nomad shoes, which very much looked like an East German product designed for the lumpen proletariat to wear while trudging... and Sub Four shorts, which were 100% an item one could have worn to the most decadent West Berlin nightclub without any issue.
The athletic running guys at my high school wore shorts which were called (if memory serves) "Sub Fours" and they were like Stubbies shorts, except they were also slit up the sides "for increased movement." In retrospect, they were the sluttiest little twink shorts you could possibly imagine.
For most of the 70s and 80s everyone's dad was wearing Stubbies, absolutely everywhere!
Even this meme forgot us so I wanna hear you most gen x complaint?
Some of you have never wandered around while singing a sea shanty to youself on the subject of stealing an F16, and it shows.
I am choosing to deal with this by Looking Away. If anything changes, however, I shall go forth.
How busy could our local hospital, the only hospital on this side of the harbour bridge, possibly be? On a Saturday night?
Getting warnings from my watch about this. If it persists, I believe I shall have to go see the good folks at the hospital.
Perhaps I should simply Vote.
I woke up and I felt weird and my heart rate is real high and it's not going down. That's probably fine, right?
Me: Alright Brain, it's 3.00am and I am awake and by myself. Time to make your usual choice for how the next few hours are going to go. Sadness, or Manic Energy, which is it?

My Brain: [Looking at the horizon] What difference does it make? What difference does ANYTHING make?

Me: Sadness it is!
